Hello, This is my first mod for C3C. It features 13 modern day civilizations on a modified world map. It uses standard Civ III rules, tech trees, etc. It should allow for a good game to jump into if you don't quite like the very early game or if you just want to try out a favorite civ on a world map. It starts out in the Medieval Age, when wars begin and nice wonders become available...basically, when things start to get interesting. :)

One unique aspect of this game is that every nation will have a different strategy. For example, Africa starts in a bit of a tech hole while England and Japan need to find a way off their island nations. Some civs must fight to advance, while others must make the most of expansion opportunites. Wonders are already built in their natural locations, which give an extra boost to those civs. I have done a lot of tweaking to try to ensure a balance between realism and playability.

13 Civs
140x60 World Map. 4200 tiles. 50% water.

Modern Age basic 1.0

I believe that this has been thoroughly tested, but you never know. If you get any problems, post them here and I will try to fix it ASAP.

I don't trust this scenario to work entirely. Download at your own risk. August 3, 2005

I just took a look in the editor, and played two quick games, and I have some suggestions to improve your mod:

Suggestions:
UK: Ireland -> Galway; Scotland -> Ullapool (alternatively move 1 tile S.E. and rename to Aberdeen, it's just more well known); change UK's adjective to British
US: New York -> Boston; Boston -> Portland (or any other coastal city in Maine that you'd like); fix American city list (i.e. Texas and Maine should not be on it); change the U.S.' noun to Americans and U.S.' adjective to American
Japan: Put a river on the SW corner of the irrigated bonus grassland 1 tile directly South of Sapporo to give the illusion of separating Hokkaido.
Africa: change the leader name since there are no Bantu areas on the map; eliminate the Zulu cities that you left at the bottom of the list
Mexico: rename the Mexican leader and optionally replace it with a custom LH
Canada: rename the Canadian leader and optionally replace it with a custom LH
Barbs (terrorists): you renamed the first two Barbarian tribes to Al Qaeda and Hamas (so you know, this will only affect the American culture group) you have to change the first two names of each of the five culture groups for these to be named this way throughout the world.

General Suggestions:
1. Use Rhye's pop mod to make the land grab phase more exciting; it happens too quickly (this would entail drastically raising the shield cost of settlers, and raising the population cost to four citizens per settler)
2. Change the name of the mod to "Modern civilizations" or something similar, as it starts in the Medieval age
3. If you're going to stick with multi-color civs, I suggest fine tuning it a bit, as the American and the Canadian colors that you've set to represent the cities on the map are identical.
4. Though I haven't gotten this far, I suggest placing two tiles of ocean squares below South America and Africa, since the U.K (etc) would be unable to send a fleet to Japan or China (etc) with the current set-up.

Oh, nice work so far, and good luck :)

Thanks for the feedback BadRonald. In all honesty my mod isn't that great. When there's so many better mods out there, or better games in general, or better things to do in life than play videogames. :p :D

City locations are general, because the balance between where a big city would be and also giving it enough tiles often contrast, so they are just generally located in some cases. Because of the amount of space cities in civ occupy, I like to name them after regions, such as Scotland or Maine, when I can.

The United States is the nation represented here. Americans represents all of North and South America, but somehow I guess we took it for ourselves.

The land grab does happen too fast, but I wanted to stick with C3C rules, so that couldn't change.

The mod is titled so that in the futue when I make the Ultimate Mod™ I can have the name reserved Modern Age scenario. Also, I would include leaderheads and all the nice things in this theoretical mod that will never be made that I wanted to.

There is no way UK can get to China...the map won't allow it. :mischief:

Fair enough.

This doesn't change the fact that by making the US' noun "United States" and its adjective "United States" that the advisors will sound ridiculous when they use the term in a context where an adjective should appear. Though I understand that you may find it inappropriate to give the U.S. the rights, per se, to the word "American" there is no alternative (e.g. "United Statesian" just doesn't cut it)

Yihaa.
One of the best maps Ive ever tried. Maybe you should make the map a little bigger and add Australia. I think there will be a lot of fights for Australia

Sounds quite interesting... I will give this a try. Sometimes I like playing from the beginning, but sometimes I don't feel like it, or want to jump to a middle ages UU.

Americans means citizens of the United States. Ecuadorans (Equatorans) means citizens of Ecuador. South Africans are citizens of the Republic of South Africa. Etc. Geographical names are very common, and nobody is ever really confused by them. Please don't get hung up on this.

We in Germany say "US-amerikanisch" if we want to be political correct. It would probably be translated "US-american", but I don't know if such constructions are possible in the English language.

I think I will play your mod since I'm a fan of earth scenarios. And your idea of giving every civilization special advantages\disadvantages sounds quiet interesting.

1) Delete Hamburg place Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm, as a Scandinavian civ, after all we are not barbarians.
2) Place some cites in west U.S.A., las vegas mayby?
3) Add Greece as a civ.
4) add Italy as a civ.
5) Play more civ :D

Big scratch-everything-out edit: forgive me, that was pure blonding of this thread

Just tested Canada, and Mounties don't work :mischief:

What!? Does it not let you build them? You have to have horses and saltpeter you know? :D

EDIT: if you still have it, could you post the save?

Oops, they're cavalry replacements? I must have been fooled by the civilopedia saying the UU was Iroquois MW. I'll play it more thoroughly before posting again ;)

Looks awesome.

Who's UU is the Mountie?

I'm going to play as the UK, so can you anybody tell me whats their UU?

I just had a problem occur during the 3rd turn of the game...

ERROR READING FILE

Missing entry in "text\PedialIcons.txt".ANIMNAME_PRTO_Elite_Defender

The game will now exit.

Actually, its with any civ, I tried messing around in the Editor, maybe its the fact that there is the impi and elite defender , but i removed the impi and still nothing and then remove the elite defender(instead of the impi) and stiill nothing.

Thanks for trying, Ansar. I consider this scenario dead. I was just testing out how to make scenarios, basically, and probably screwed something up.
