Monarch Student VIII - Genghis Khan

We've just played Imp, so i'd like the next to be MM or Hannibal - the two i never played at all.
Btw, i have a nice St-size map for Hannibal and will be very glad to present MSIX or X ;)
I guess MM can easily be WB'ed instead of Hanny, though.
Thoughts about the start
Spoiler :

PII really does no good here - he is too easily axerushed. Why need keshiks against an AI who not only neglects military, but also builds that stupid holkans instead of archers.
Shaka would be no good either - he is easily rushed in the same fashion. He would at least have barracks in Ulundi, though.
I'd almost suggest (again) replacing PII with Hammy or Giggles - they are not easily axerushed, but still... they can't stop Keshiks too. I guess, nothing can.
start with victims and horses = won game for GK.
Those peace-lovers on the other continent make excellent prey, too :)

I agree with this quote:

"start with victims and horses = won game for GK."

but would only add one thing:

need to also have anything that helps the early economy, gold/silver/holy city. Then it's guaranteed. It can be a bit tougher without something for the early economy, because it is possible to run out of steam post-pillaging and post-taking of cities in genghis games - that's the biggest risk.

Rag is dead. Bye Rag.

researching towards construction and sailing to bring some Keshiks ad Ger elephants to Just.
Smuggle veteran keshiks to harass him while i'm building the real invasion army:

met Roosy and Hatty. Hah! Peace-loving weaklings! Just at least had a stack. Hatty has no metal and roosevelt didn't kill her because of it. That's describing both nicely.

Just was tough though. I had used to raze his cities, including one 11-sized, but then i thought i can spawn a colony and benefit from 2 magic defenders.
So, hello, Qin.
MSVIIIGK+660.meet.Qin0000.JPG
Your loosy defenders turned out to be warriors, and all that peaceloving AI's are immediately annoyed with you, dirty warmongering backstabber. At least you are protective.

Just fought back bravely, and finally defeated almost all my army. He lost all core cities in process though, but i had to conduct 2 emergency whipping circles to build my troops back. Against the new army he could do nothing (and Roosy backstabbed him, too, although he was unable to actually do any damage). Bet down to 4 loosy cities, Just caps.
Roosy and Hat have Pikemen by this time, but who cares.

Massive Cats+Drill LB's shred them nicely, and where they fail, highly promoted Keshiks and phants finish the battle.

Roosy loses 3 cities and caps.
upgrade Keshiks to knights
attack Hat

All captured cities were gifted to Qin. I know i lose wonders, but it's fast and i get 2 axemen/macemen instantly and i do not pay for them.
So game over.
I never played Pangaea, but i think the map is not much different from it - mainly due to AI stupidity. Just and roosy could easily block me from carrying any reinforcements with their triremes, but they did not.

I neglected GP farming and bulbing and lib race in this game.
If any mongol feel particularly great, he may prove he can count to ten, then take a sword, a horse and go command a squad. The only GS i popped built Academy in mutal. Liberalism? hehe! mongols are free already - as long as they have enough foriegn slaves ;)
Btw, Karakorum was building 23xp keshiks/knights, and it's not even midgame.

No problem with Hannibal, we just need a Fin leader to complete the traits.
You can upload it on Friday, as usual. Let me know if you don't know how to fix the speed and playable civs.

If you play hannibal everyone will be spamming horses again!!! Give us a break

Those NC are insane over powered units.

Koreans would be a more interesting choice.

Nice game!! This was always going to be a walk due to the AI's and GK. Even KK would of walked this. I think Marathan only increases the Mongol UU window.

Played up until ~1700, finishing off my continent. I really should have done it with Keshiks early, longbows or not, as this was a huge pain.

Spoiler :
I started by massing cannons to take out Rag. Unfortunately, despite being backwards, he's huge and has a giant army. When I was ready to declare on him with a stack of ~100 advanced units, I was still behind him in power. By the time I was finished massing cannons I had teched rifling, so I got some rifles in my attack force as well. Rag took two barb cities to the right, so I had a marginal stack to take those out. Unfortunately his SoD that he was supposed to be fighting Roosevelt with was there as well, but since the AI doesn't know how to cross the blue stuff, it makes me fight a two front war.

Eventually I had ~50 CR2/3 cannons, and a ~50 stack mix of rifles/knights/elephants/keshiks. Overkill, but what are you going to do.

Rag put up a good fight when I declared, his SoD in the east had enough knights to really mess up my cannons with flanking damage, and that stalled me some more. He attacked with 3 or 4 different stacks from all directions, and landed a force of 8 units behind Karakorum and took a lightly defended city (I didn't even think the AI could attack from the sea if I was a land target?) I retook it easily since Karakorum was spitting out a rifle per turn, but losing all the buildings still sucks. As expected, I lost all of my seafood, which wrecked my GP farm, but still wasn't too bad overall. Eventually though, I repelled all of his attacks, and took the barb cities, and was ready to take the fight to Rag's land.

I steamrolled him like you would any backwards unit spammer. It took a long time, as all of his cities were heavily guarded, and then had to withstand a counter attack stack, but eventually I took all of his northern cities, including his capital, and his production seriously dropped off after that. The very slow process of taking a city, sitting there a turn to heal, and then moving one space at a time to the next city really made me miss keshiks. It took 200 years, but eventually I took Rag's last city. I was starting to get seriously hindered by WW. My big cities were ~45 unhappiness with a combination of emancipation and WW.

RagDead0000.jpg

Here is Rag's lands, the north:

RagLandNorth0000.jpg

There's a good city in the unsettled jungle, everything else is pretty average. And the south:

RagLandSouth0000.jpg

More average land, but now I have a ton of cities to crank out rifles and cannons to take out the other continent.

The other continent is a huge lovefest. They have a 3 way defensive pact, that will make taking them out a little tougher. I had to turn up the gold slider for the Rag war, so the Buddhists passed me in tech:

MSTech1700AD0000.jpg

Either way, I'm getting close to domination, taking out Hatty might be enough:

MSVIIIGKVictoryConditions0000.jpg

I waited to long to take out Rag, but it shouldn't matter much, hopefully it will be an easy war with Hatty, since I already have ~3X her power. I won't be getting a 1300AD win, but still should be an easy one.

Well, MSIXMM is essentially ready to go.
I do not remember how malinese flag file is called, so they have some strange symbol painted on it instead of that helmet :)
One question though - am i right that i should set
MaxTurns=0
to let the game decide how long it should last?
I'd like to post it today, because i will work tomorrow, but i can wait. At least, friday night in russia is only friday afternoon in most other countries ;)

thanks.
and *sigh - astrotech was a nice flag :).
So, ready to go.
EDIT: erm, no, dot definitely is not the mali flag.
but who cares, it's nice too. in fact, you can use any, replacing just one line.

i'm starting the game right now. it's kind of spoilered for me, but it would be interesting to see if it will be really as tough as i think.
Just say when i should upload the WBsave.

Spoiler :
ok. just for the record, whoever decided to rush axes because horses we're too far away was dead wrong. i tech'd ah and w/e it took to get horse archers. had 4 cities before i delcared of pac. had about 3 axemen ten keshiks. Can you believe that in 3000 years the prick didn't build one single wonder? Man what a disapointment :(

Anyways i was trying to rex after taking him out but cathy was sneaking settlers in between cities. This would not do, as soon as she settled it i declared. I still had about 8 horse archers and a rank 3 medic swordsmen with cats inc.. I didn't think i was going to be able to get all the way to her capital so soon but i did what Temujin does best and ravaged my continent in quick speed :goodjob:

I had to wait for rifles + cannon for ragnar he had a lot of troops and i didn't wanna get into a big mid evil war i wanted a smash down.

Then it was tech to infanty + art and smash Justinian. He was a big tech leader when i was warring the hardest, but i teched philo and paper on the way to liberalism (which i won) and i was able to trade everything i needed to catch Justinian and eventually leave him in the dust. The war on his continent was infantry + art vs rifleman and cavarly :goodjob:.

ended up getting a dom victory at 1848 93k points.

The American was the tech leader by the time the game ended since i had to switch civics a bunch of times, to nationhood to mass draft one turn and when i finally got democracy switched and then had to switch back into free speech . Ignored tech all together until i started getting lazy and wanted the building to stop bugging me and switched everything to research hehe.

Oh, and to make things easier everyone on the other continent was different religions and they all hated Justinian.

Fun game, i really liked the mongols. Was my first time playing them and to say hes a weak leader is crazy talk.. If you like warring, no one can do it better than 10,000 screaming Keshiks early game. have to say the early happy cap bonuses helped a bunch tho.

I just downloaded, do i post saves every couple of turns or something?

I rushed Keshiks; getting 2 GGs along the way. Am i doing well at the moment?

Bringing back one of my favorite old games - such fond memories. I loved blowing the AI away with Keshiks in this game.

Anyway, for these series typically people will post a summary of their game and a few screens at standard break points, around 1 AD, 1000AD or lib, and game end. No hard and fast rules, but that's what people typically do.

As for your game, you've cleared most of your continent and have cottages going, so you're doing fine. I assume you're just learning the game, as you're on settler difficulty. What you'll probably want to do is read up on one of the guides in the strategy articles forum, sisiutil's strategy guide for beginners is pretty good:

You are playing settler level??????? Sheeesh restart on at least noble or prince level.

I think settler level is really meant for people who just picked up the game and dont know how to play it. You have such a huge advantage its untrue!!

I'm sorry, I usually play on Noble or Prince with the leaders I know well, Chieftan with the iffy guys, and Settler with the guys I'm bad at.
