This is my first post at this forum. I found this board and thought this would be a great way to start. I'm going to write down my most recent play through. I hope you enjoy reading it! :)

I played Genghis Khan, of the Mongolian Empire. I made it custom and let it randomize 4 opponent civs to play with. It turned out to be a wise decision. I turned off both space race, and time victory. It was set to epic.

The other 4 civs were Germany under Frederick, Russia under Peter, Japan under Tokugawa, and the Malinese under Mansa Musa. I laid down my capital city 2 spaces south of my settlers starting point, and quickly made warriors for defense, and sent settlers north, east, and south.

I made an early landgrab and was successful in taking a very nice chunk of land. Frederick was south east of me on a peninsula, Peter was north east and controlled 1/3rd of the continent, and Tokugawa controlled the southeastern 1/3 of the island.

I signed open borders with Peter, and Frederick which was a mistake. Frederick used this as an opportunity to send two settlers through my southernmost territory where he quickly set up cities effectively choking my south eastern expansion towards Tokugawa. I now had to declare war, so i built a military and set out to destroy his 2 settlements. It took some toil and trouble, but I eventually crushed them both. Then I moved south onto his peninsula with Peter as my war ally, and I destroyed Munich, his northern most city.

I took Berlin, which was south of Munich, which was then recaptured. Peter sent his men to the city, and leveled it. I was very thankful that he didn't set up a new governor. I then moved south and destroyed Frederick's last 2 cities. I made settlers, and had them take over the peninsula.

I now controlled the western half of the continent. This is when I met Mansa Musa. He had 2 lesser islands all to himself. At this time I focused on my civilization's progression through much of the tech tree, keeping in mind the war I knew was coming. I took over Orenburg, one of Peter's cities, with culture. I was steadily pushing my cultural borders east. I used great artists, and built culture boosting wonders in my border cities.

During this time, the Malinese were my best trading partners, followed by Peter who disliked the Malinese. However, it was the Japanese that were most hateful towards the malinese. I built the U.N. and a sizeable modern military. I passed all of the U.N. proposals except world leader, which tokugawa made impossible. I knew a war with Japan was now inevitable.

I declared war, and started south east. I got Peter and Mansa Musa to aid me in the endeavor. It was a long 200 year war in which I captured and razed many cities, and I managed to force Tokugawa off of the continent. He escaped with but a single settlement on the tip of Mansa Musa's larger island. That last effort at saving himself didn't help.

Once that last settlement was razed I was ready to take on Peter for his 1/3 of the continent, however he was an ally from the start. I didn't feel like stabbing him in the back, since he was very helpful in both wars.

I decided that a diplomatic victory was in order. I voted for myself, Peter voted for me, and Mansa Musa voted for himself.

This playthrough lasted 5 hours, and 17 minutes. :goodjob:
