Monte started on a small pangea map with a safe and small area hemmed in and protected by mountains with just two small passes.
We found Brussels in the far corner and Kuala Lumpar just south next to Ramesses
In the far south was Bismark the warmonger and he slowly devoured his neighbours such that by the advent of gunpowder he has annihilated Ghandi and Napoleon then went after
Hiawatha and Ramesses whilst he was friendly to me we had various pacts and worked well together in two research pacts
I was leading for the first 150 turns and briefly allied to Brussels when Bismark started moving ahead as the various nations fell to his mongering
My safe and compact starting position now begins to hamper my nation we need some luxuries and the only way forward whilst friendly with Egypt is to look for lebensraum so I attack and take the two city states of Brussels and Kuala lumpar..... and all hell breaks out as everyone declares war on me even though they are all fighting each other..!
I manage to hold off both Egypt and Hiawatha and earn great peace treaties including cities and luxuries
I crank up my science so my small army is way ahead of the pikemen thrown at me by Bismark this and the narrow gap to my land ensures Bismark pays heavily for his armies thrown at me like Douglas Haigh in WW1... its the Somme every turn and my armies heal as they win each fight.
Monties special flavour then kicks in giving me culture with each death of a german.
But my happiness is plumetting and my economy is virtually bankrupt
I fight to stay in it using a great general scientist and engineer to have artificial golden ages
Then wham the luxuries I earned in my peace with Hiawatha and Ramesses are lost after the 30 turn peace.
Just as my empire starts to crack Bismark wheels up his artillery and riflemen and cavalry and generals and they smash through my little pass ironically held by another great general Leonidas for so many years... my pass of Thermopolaye is swamped
Bismark is at the gates of my capital... I am done for...
What a game... less than min specs as well swooth and such a wonderful game so much more thought provoking than civ 4....
