MoO 2: overheating and game freezes

i have a recurring problem with the win95 version of moo2, which i run under win xp. everything runs fine, but it frequently 'stalls', when no input from me is accepted, including control-alt-delete. also, it sometimes causes my computer to COP, particularly on the technology screen. my computer is a 2.4ghz 756mb ram laptop, so i cant imagine whats causing this problem.

Probably graphics. Trying using the dos version with Dosbox.
