I've been unsuccessfully trying to beat the game under the following conditions:

* Must play creative (any other racial traits are your choice)
* Impossible
* Huge
* Avg
* 8 Player
* Prewarp
* Elerian picture
* Antarans Attack
* Random Events
* No Dimensional Portals to attack Antarans

I've beaten the game under those conditions playing Feudal and Uncreative races, but somehow when I'm creative I just get crushed. Anybody have advice on winning under those conditions? Thanks.

Well I have used that race with those settings. I had no rule on the Portal, but I have attack the Antaran planet and not go there, it matters not.

What I do with that game is not allow myself to expand, unless attacked or I kill the Guardian. IOW I just turtle on my system. At that point, it is free for all. I sometimes will more or less just kill everyone or capture everything.

In the more less kill everyone, I mean only grab a planet here or there to allow gates to send over ship/troops. I will get to gates quickly so I can send my fleet back, if need be.

After all these years, you have to try all sorts of settings.

I do play the other settings. I just prefer the prewarp, average game I outlined. (I think I might be the only one who likes those settings though. :crazyeye:) As far as turtling goes, that's how I play it. I actually think my problem is that I'm not aggressive enough. I think I need to start attacking earlier. I usually wait until I get the cybertronic computer before I start attacking.

One thing you want to do is recon, you may get lucky and find a Leader or Artifact or gold. You may even find a extra nice system close at times and go ahead and grab it. You can usually get up a missile base in time to hold off any visitors.

That is just another variable to use to change up the play. Too bad you can't just use a random button to select everything, like a quick start that you do not even see the system selections or the race selection. You just get what ever you, maybe even an uncreative will fall out.

I am currently fooling around with Moo3 again, even though I hated it. I have it sitting around all these years, so I figured I will try some of the mods and see if it is bearable.

You know you can get Sword of the Stars + 3 expansions on Steam right now for $15, and it's way better than MOO3 could ever hope to be. ;)

Lets say that was true, why does it mean I should never play Moo3 again? Moo3 may make it so I never play Moo3 again. In fact I never thought I would, but I am taking one more stab. So far not so good and it may go back to its grave.

Good advice. I haven't played MOOII in a while so I'm a bit rusty. It still astounds me how much replay I get out this game and I'm amazed that it still plays without any problems. I have figured out my problem. I've been neglecting to go up the research tree for the Autolab. If I don't throw Autolabs down, I lose the game trying to supercompute my way to gate.

I've never played MOOIII. I've picked up the box and come really close to buying it, but it just doesn't sound like it's worth hassling with. MOOII has just the right level of complexity for me.

For starters it is true, or was when I wrote it. For seconds, I didn't say you can't play MOO3 again if you think it will be a good use of your time. Personally I would want to use my time to play a game that is more likely to be fun than one which I've had bad experiences with in the past.

I have all day, so I can spare the time. Just a change of pace. The one good thing about being retired, free time is not an issue.
