More "Ask Sid" Q&A

For the second straight month, Firaxis has published another question-and-answer session with Sid Meier. This month's questions are a bit more focused and serious, and many center around the platform possibilities for future Firaxis games (PC, iPhone, etc.).

After a two year hiatus, it seems that Firaxis' revival of the Ask Sid series is indicative of an announcement to come. Here is a sample of what Sid had to say:

Question: I've been a huge fan of the Civilization series since a very young age and I've also always been a computer gamer at heart. The recent addition to the Civ series on the Xbox 360 and PS3 is a nice thing to see, but will the PC line of civ be continuing?

Sid: We have a very large and loyal Civ PC community and have always said that we’ll keep delivering new Civ games to the community if they keep asking for them. So all you Civ PC fans out there need to make some noise!

Q: I am a huge fan of Civ 4. When can we expect the release of Civ 5?

S: Well, we've just wrapped up the Civ IV series with the release of Civ IV: Colonization, which seems to be a hit. And we recently released Civ IV: Complete for anyone who is interested in getting Civ IV, the two expansions and Colonization all on one disc (and DRM free). We have always said that if the fans want more Civ we’ll keep making more. We'll take your email as another vote for more Civ and let you know if there is any news to report.

Note: The E3 gaming convention officially begins today and runs through June 4th. We will be keeping an eye on any information released by 2K Games or Firaxis.

Edit: I just e-mailed Firaxis, telling them my hounest opinion on the subject, complaining it is taking too long. Civ: Revolutions isn't worthy, give us a grand Civ5 please!

Make some noise? Odd. I would think the sales figures for all of the Civ4 products would be enough to justify a Civ5. They've never made a statement like this in the past that I'm aware of. How exactly would we make noise anyway?

The Q&As are interesting. I'm glad Fraxis brought it back.

I hope that when they make CIV5, they take some ideas from some of the mods here, such as ethnic cities and units, improved graphics and master victory.

I thought I was the only one that remembered that dinosaur game they were going to make. I believe they shelved that when they were asked to make Civ III.

Do we really need to make noise? Didn't Civ 4 sell 2 million+ units? That was such an odd thing for him to say.

I don't want to hurt Sid, but these Q&As are... not so brilliant...
Of course we want civ5 - and of course it will sell well...

Sid always gives answers like this "it's not forgotten", "we'll see", "if you want it, yes" etc

What's the point in these Q&As if no relevant info can be given?

Because they arent going to make such a huge announcement in a Q&A, they'll do it through a press release or press conference. Seems to me an announcement is going to happen soon, and this is just to build up momentum for it. Might not be at E3, but cant be far off.

Yeah I'm starting to think we may be being led up the garden path here myself. Maybe I'm wrong, but I dont think an announcement is imminent. I must say if this is true, its very disappointing.

They could really take a leaf out of Paradox's book. when Paradox announced HoI3, they gave a teaser about a month in advance saying 'we will be announcing a new project on such and such a date', Firaxis should do the same

A few other games I think, noting I was interested personally.... its just so frustrating. Especially with the new Q&As, I had though we were definitely getting something. and, like I said, if there was an annoucement going to be made this summer at all, you would think it was either at the E3 or not at all, which means more and more waiting.... shame.

Please make Alpha Centauri or some other derivative, instead of making Civ 5 which I think is a little too soon.

Also I'd love Alpha to be remade. An add on or a mod for CIV V would be fine.

I'd love it if Firaxis worked with guys like the BUG mod. I just can't remeber how I played with out it.
