More Hero's special objects

I thought it would be great if every hero (at least, a 'strong' one, 10 + strength
) when killed, let down a specific special object...some lame examples: the wane of Hemah, The shield of the order (Sphener)...well, you know where it's going...

Maybe that could cause problems with the balancing of the game, what do you think?

I forget where I read it, but somewhere there's a message to modders from the team which says something along the lines of "the 'weapon' feature in FfH theoretically allows you to create vast armouries of weapons for units to weild, but we'd rather you thought twice about that as weapons are meant to be (relatively) rare and therefore special".

I don't think balance would be the main issue, I think the problem is that the more weapons there are, the less interesting each single one is. Certainly, the basic "gives x extra strength" has been done to death. Affinity is a nice way to spice it up but that's pretty common now too. If you can come up with some really unique ways for drops to interface with units then there's always a bit more room but even then I'd want them to be much rarer than a drop from a common Hero.

Hmm, maybe something like "Loki gem" - could works like Taunt, but can`t be resisted.

I always thought it would be fun to have a weapon that was built as a wonder. Maybe require iron working + iron + enchantment mana, and you can build Excalibur or something similar.

I'm not sure all the heros should have one, but I do like the idea of giving it to a lot of them.

I don't think any of the civs with multiple heroes/world units (Doviello, Lanun, and now Kuriotates) should get equipment. It could be nice to make Lucien start with Iron weapons though, as he does seem to be the last Doveillo with a finely crafted metal weapon.

In the case of Sphenor, I'd say that he should start out carrying the Sword and Shield from the Symbol of Junil at the Seven pines. I think making this provide Law affinity could be cool, or maybe a bonus vs. demons/undead/HN units.

While I'm not sure I like the name "Loki Gem," an equipment that lets other units use taunt could be quite nice.

I'd like to give Basium a war hammer that prevents units it kills from returning as manes (unfortunately the code creating manes only checks for the civ that killed the unit, not the unit) and has some other bonus for defeating demons too, like giving units in the stack warcry when it is used to kill a demon.

I like changing the Gela to provide Entropy affinity instead of just +2 unholy strength, and make it allow those wielding it to cast a spell similar to Domination that works on Demons, probably requiring AV stats religion.

I think that the Mithril Golem should drop a new Pieces of the Mithril Golem equipment when t is destroyed, which just like the Pieces of Barnaxus would let it be rebuilt.

You are either drunk or knurd. Figure out which - the holidays ought to sort you out.

Wouldn't you be less likely to make mistakes when you're knurd, as it shows you what reality really is?

The +2 strength sword is the whole reason why I build Rathus Denmora, the Sidar hero. I'd much rather have a 5 strength Hidden Hero for recon plus a Nether Blade with +80% vs. Heroes to hand to Baron Duin Halfmoon than a 7 strength Rathus Denmora. :)

I kind of think more Heroes should come like this. Makes things a bit more interesting to build and a bit more interesting to defeat them as well. :)

I especially liked the magic item that Hyborem dropped one game. That Gela gave a +2 Unholy strength bonus and it also gave +1 strength each time you killed a unit in combat. I had a lot of fun with a few 95 strength rangers in that game.

I don't think it is supposed to do that.

Yeah, that would be cool too! Maybe some Beast Hero (Dragons, the Baboon...) could drop pieces of them (hide, claws...) to be brought in a city and to combine with something else (forge + X mana or mage guild + Y tech) to build some nasty equipment!

...you know, I always find more funny build up your own hero, meaning to raise an unit to a very high level and give him some good equipment...the creation of such objects would make it even moer funny!

I think adding some hero weapons that could be picked up is a good idea, especially for national and religious heroes.

You would have to exclude the Adventurer heroes, however as they can be somewhat common in a game. I was lucky enough to get three of them in one .34 game from dungeons/lairs. Then, you have Cassiel and Co....

The idea of "excalibur" is very nice. Perhaps there is some requirement like Dragonblood, lichbones, or other things.

If you do add in a lot more equipment, then units should be restricted from holding more than one or two weapons at a time. Chalid + Losha's Dagger + Arms of Junil + Rantine's Spear + Gilden's Bow + Maros' Fullplate = Death on Wheels. You can already do that with the gear in the game already, of course, but more equipment would make it easier.

I disagree.

Heroes are special and flavorful. If you hand the Nether Blade to a Champion who's got a little higher base power than Rathus, you've munchkined two or three extra strength points out of it...and completely mucked up the lore about Rathus and the Shadowed Vale and the appeal of having one unique named unit who can do extra stuff.

It's fun for a few particular heroes who are known to have legendary weapons, but giving it to everyone would sacrifice a big piece of the hero mechanic. And there are some people who are heroes because they're just really good warriors or magi regardless of what sword or wand or whatever they're using.

That's exactly the point! To equip a normal a unit with some special object that gives him special abilities is to create your brand new hero! I use to change their name too, so to make that unit very special...with a little of fantasy you can expand your possibilities and create something that didn't existed otherwise!

I think if you take a special weapon away from its rightful owner, that owner should have a chance every turn to go Barbarian. Maybe promos like "needs Nether Blade" and if you don't have the matching equipment, byebye! Plus a chance of an event where the item is "stolen" back byt the rightful owner.
