HI programmers and civfans!

I suggest that there should be more social (including political, economic and diplomatic) factors in Civ4.

1.Religions - they played a great role in history ever since man was expelled from Paradise. There should be some special attribute to each civ which religion they prefer - however, religions should be able to be changed (e.g. by Religious Great Leaders or so)
2.Sports (and Festivals) - these actions should add cultural points and lessen unhappy citizens' number
3.Social Engineering - YESS!!! my opinion is added to those, who prefer this ability to be bulit in
4.Enhanced Diplomacy and Easier Covert Operations - please more diplomatic actions (even till confederation with other civs, or units being able to enter an allied civ's cities or so) AND cheaper and easier spying with commando and/or spy units.
5.Enhanced Commerce: raw materials (shileds) and food should be able to be transported (like Supply Convoys in Alpha Centauri) and traded between civs

Oppinions??

Be able to enter an allied city without attacking, is nice. It was possible in Civ2.

About religion, I understand why you call for it and you're wright; religion has made our history (not just been a part of it, but totaly shaped it). But how can you translate it into an electronic game ? I really don't see.

Same thing for sports and festivals.

I don't see what you call Social Engineering.

Finally, I am totaly ok with the raw material idea.

Social Engineering was a very nice attribute of Alpha Centauri firaxis game. You were able to adjust your political, economic and social system.
For example, you could choose to rule by "police state" but use "free market" to boost your treasury. Nowdays example: China.

Religions: they should affect research for instance, or cultural points, or warlike behaviour, or diplomatic actions, or happy citizens, or economy, etc. Let's see an example: the bloody cult of the Mezoamerican civs was good enough to build huge temples and supply enough food and lead to very intellectual thoughts (astronomy) but did not encouraged technical breakthroughs - they did not used the wheel!!
you're wright

:) Sometimes I dream of becoming a shipwright

sorry for the joke :)

A way that religion could effect the game would be if you conquered another city that belonged to another civ with a different religion, there would be a larger chance of a revolt.
I'm all with the power to enter allied cities. However, you should only be able to enter without declaring war if you had a mutual protection pact (or something like that, but you could get it earlier in the game).

Social Engineering would be a nice feature to include, I agree. :) Being able to modify certain things about your empire in that way would be an improvement over Civ 3's simple government system. There were too few things to change, and you couldn't really customize things so you always ended up going the same path (Despotism-Republic and then possibly one of the final govs if you were Religious). It'd be important to make sure everything is balanced though, so that you don't end up with an "optimized" pattern just like in Civ 3. A variety of viable options is the bread-and-butter of strategy games. :)

I would really like to see religions play as important a role as governments. You should be able to have a religion and a government at the same time. This would open up a ton of variations in the game. Some combo's would work well while others failed, some combo's shouldn't even be possible.. Maybe even have an option to allow "freedom of religion" that could result in chaos if infighting occurs.. culture wars could be fought through religion as well..

And in modern times, a city with a different religion might try to revolt with terrorists, and these terrorists will destroy buildings, lower population, lower hit points/kill a garrisoned unit, etc.

I like those except sports. Sometimes they made people unhappy or unproductive. Just look at the riots after soccer, I mean football, games in non-USA places.
I never played SMAC but the social eng. does look interesting. It's kind of like laws and traits combined but you can change them with more detail. Like CTP's rations and workday length.
