More UU's for each civ

I've been thinking, and it should increase game play if each civ. had another UU.

Nothing over powering, but something unique that gives then a specific edge.

ie:

Japan has Samurai.
Give them a Ninja as well. Faster movement, ability to instant-kill any unit with less than half health, very weak when not in forested / jungle / city area.

Ninja is something that is very difficult to implement in civ4, maybe it would act as a spy but being buildable in medieval age. Something that could be implemented it "kill army general", using it in a army the army receives a temporary combat penalty because of the lost of the leader.

One small problem with that, no armies!
But it would be cool to have new UUs to each civ.

There are more appropriate UUs for Japan, if you want to use them as an example. The Kamikaze fighter, for instance -- not pleasant, but a historical fact.

When adding more UUs to a civ, I would strongly recommend units that would not overlap too much in the game. I find the ninja not appropriate in a gameplay sense for this reason: comes in the same timeframe as the Samurai. Two UUS at once could overpower a civ.

More unique units would be great, and I agree with Kodama. But, it seems like it might be a little harder for some civs to have multiple uu's. I'm sure you could find plenty of them through history, but some might have to be in the same era. Especially with civs like Rome or Persia, which only existed in one major era, you'd need to stretch the civs' definitions (Rome would have to have a modern Italian unit, and Persia would need units from Iraq/Iran)

Inca: NOT Clubman. The Quechua IS a clubman -- he has a club, just a somewhat inappropriate name (Quechua is actually an Andean tribe/language group, not a type of warrior). But he clearly displays worked metal, so I usually bump him up to be an axeman replacement.

Aztecs: Eagle Knight/Warrior (depending on how you translate, I suppose -- by Civ4 convention, perhaps it should just be "Eagle" :p )

Also, the additional Roman unit should NOT be the Legionaire/Legionary -- this is already represented by the Praetorian, who should just have a name change.

Mali could have a Songhai unit, I suppose....

I really don't think that anyone should have their UU an air or Naval unit as it would be a big disadvantage to those with land UU and would make the game unbalanced. the B-52 Idea although it would be cool would not really make a diffrence as air power seems somewhat of an afterthough only good for bombard anyway. same with Naval units while they may be good units and whatever they can't really do anything or change much if they are restrickted to the air or to the sea stick to land units.

Some Ideas for units might be

US-Apache/commanche
China- Hand Cannoneer
Germany- V2 rocket troops/Chemical troops/Panzerfaust infantry
Russia- Black Eagle
England- WW1 tank I forget what they called them
Greece- Gastraphetes unit
Egypt- Chariot bowmen/ Scimitar swordsmen

Can't think of any for the other civs off the top of my head right now

There is a mini-mod out called Alex's uniques that did add more UUs to each civ. Some have 3 now. Check it out. :D

I have a different idea -

instead of giving civs fixed UUs, they have to unlock UUs by research. For example, you have reasearched archery, than you can build your normal archer, now you can deside to continue your research on archery ( 5 times more cost ), and if you succeded in being first to discover improved archery, than you get an Archer UU - I guess this could be expanded for all units + like in real live you do not only research for discover new techs, you have to research for improving techs ... ( and it would add some kind of UUs research race ;) )
