More WWII Trivia

The Calvery charge is incorrect, the Soviets where still charging here and there as late as 1944, so for get some games' info on that.
In fact, I remember reading somewhere that a British unit charged africans in the Mau Mau rebellion in Kenya in the mid 50s.

Don't know, I'll assume you know better.

This is why I said that the last Cavalry charge hasn't happened yet. :)

I, too, recall the charge during the Mau Mau rebellion. I also know that the PRC army uses mounted units to patrol the more rugged areas of China. There are still mounted units in many armies.

Just to clarify, this is a WWII trivia quiz - so in my mind I was thinking last calvary charge of WWII.

i.e. A rebellion in Africa in the 50s is not counted.
Soviets charging in 1944 is.

p.s. Do you need to be attacking enmasse with swords to be termed a calvary charge. Otherwise why do you need to get close, you can just fire from far away. Besides you can't shoot straight when your horse is galloping.

i.e. does being mounted automatically make you calvary?

I see your point about it being a WW2 quiz. Sorry. :)

However, I would say that while being mounted may not make you cavalry, you don't need to have swords either.

The Germans fielded at least one Cavalry division in Barbarossa and I'm pretty sure they didn't have any swords. Since not all Soviet cavalry divisions were manned by Cossacks, I'd assume they didn't all carry swords either.

Now, you MAY have to be Cossack in order to charge someone on horseback with swords in the first place. Well, it would probably help, anyway. :)
