Yeah, Imperialism is pretty crazy. IIRC, it has the trade bonus, plenty of free unit support, cash rush, and 2 or 3 military police in addition to what Hasbone said. No drawbacks, and the only positive it is missing is free building upkeep.

Anyway, in the epic game, Communism is the most verasile. Unlike republic, it has no trouble going to war. Communism doesn't have the trade bonus, but if you have a large empire, the reduced corruption makes up for that. Pop rush is worse than cash rush when at peace, but a communist nation can always spend money on espionage with their veteran spies. Even if the espionage fails, the other civ probably won't declare war on you since your army is big(lots of production and free support). Military police doesn't hurt, either.

Republic is the first best govt. If you're religious then frequent switches are possible, but who wants to risk a 9 turn anarchy to switch to Commie?

Monarchy: The republic unit support is too low and puts a huge dent in your income. Also, before conquests, it didn't have any unit support!

I voted Fascism. At first I was going to vote Republic, but then I remembered the times I used Republic. It has a commerce restraint in that it is the only government that I remember that has no free units pre-Conquests, and it doesn't have enough in Conquests. To adequately guard your cities, you'll need at least 2 defensive units. So you have 2 choices if you're in Republic: inadequately guard your cities or try to make up for it. If you inadequately guard your cities, you'll certainly be destroyed by the AI. Trying to make up for it is leading to chaos. The basic idea is that you have your citizens get lots of gold to pay for your armies, but it's pretty unreliable. If you use an improvement, you're paying maintnence so there isn't much to be gained from your laborers. That leaves the luxury slider (decrease science to increase luxuries) or trying to find luxuries (good luck in C3C.)

In Fascism, I usually have some of metropolises then. 10 free units per metropolis takes care of those problems involving units support. At this point, if I assign some tax collectors and cities with Wealth and take into account the 200% worker rate to build roads everywhere and irrigate/mine to maximize my money, I can get to near 100% science funding if I play it right. Try that in a Republic.

Here's an interesting question for everyone. I know there are polls on what govt does which best, but I was curious: What does everyone think is the most flexible government? Eg: One that can switch from a military focus to an ecenomic or scientific one, and back, etc.

Got an opinion? Lets hear it! :)

I would have to say anarchy, it focuses on nothing, produces nothing, and wastes time, just like me :mischief:

1st: Republic, if you have infrastructure worth a damn you can pay unit support, ward off war weariness and good cash and research.
2nd: Facism, best for warmongering but with little corruption and cheap units it can be good for cash and research too. Nice to have fastest workers and military police too.
3rd: Monarchy, a bit of everything, jack of all trades master of none only problem is low research.
4th: Communism, great...but only with a large empire.
5th: Despotism, like monarchy but crappier.
6th: Fuedalism/Democracy, these tie last because for both you need a very specific empire to make them work, either no infrastructure for fuedalsim or just about everything for democracy.

Remember these aren't best to worst, they are most flexible to least flexible.

No one voted for feudalism!

i'm suprised how little people voted for facism. i think facism is one of the best gov't except for the xenophobic thing(kills 3 citizens in every city). the workers work incredibly fast, large military support from cities and military police to control citizens' moods.

Not to mention the lack of a commerce bonus...

i hate republic although i voted for it by mistake

like in my latest game i was in depotism and was making 21+ cash and was able to maintain a huge army but then i switched to republic and i was making 18+ gpt which eventually lowered all the way to 9+ and then went up to 11+ and fell finally to only 10+ gpt which pisses me off [pissed]

Note: i have a huge empire that consists on entire modern France on a huge European Map with only showing southern Europe and France is very big, i playing as Romans

You probably were dealing with the unit support Republic does not have. If you kill them...
