..the story goes. I wanted to fool around a bit in public games. Problem was suddenly all seemed to have DLCs I didnt have. I got annoyed and bought all the DLCs, problem solved.

Now to the real problem. I fooled around a bit with the DLC civs. Stumbled into eldorado with spain (1000 gold turn 5) very OP but highly random.... but thats not what this is about.

This is about Babylon. The way babylon is configurated right now there is no way it can be allowed in ancient start unless you mirror civs.

its so OP it s not even fun. the 50% GS bonus + free GS is nice allready but the real problem is that they have the most OP ancient unit. The babylonian archer. 8 ranged 6 in close combat. It holds up very well towards any classical unit. It cost nothing to build (well allmost nothing) And you can get it super super early.

Build a few cities. Focus on producction and just spit them archers out and nothing, nothing can stop you. get 8-9 of them + 1 spear/sword or whatever to take the cities and you can steamroll the map.

Yeah 8-9 would be enough but in reallity you can have like 20 of those bastards pretty quick.

I mean why stop with 4 cities (allthought thats enough) when you can have 10 cities. all producing those op archers. Babylon is not just inbalanced in ancient. its so faar from balanced that france seem to be a well rounded and quite weak ancient stating civ.

..or you host a game without allowing Babylon...?????

Why make things more complicated then they have to be.

In the league its simple. You pick civ. agree on what civs are allowed, what civs call for a re start if random etc. So no problem.

In public. well in public people can play babylon if they like. they are op but not so OP that a public player can beat me or any other top league player....

So no problem.

Problem is it s bad that they dont think about trying to balance units and civs. because making DLC civs like this means they ll never be used in league play, hence no reason for league players to buy them.

Hope they wont make the same mistake in G&K. I read somewhere that not all civs will be able to found religion and that its random who gets to be founder. If it s a huge advantage to be founder, then you ll end up with a huge random advantage that you cant do much about. League play is about taking away much of the randomness and let skill decide.

Hope G&K doesnt screw that up.

Great you got the DLCs! You can join Tony, AwesoMe, and a few more of us for non-ranked experiment games! We had a few 2x2s where the Spain team found 3 wonders first and got a 1500 gold boost very early in the game.

Yea, you found the virtually unstoppable bowman rush. Bowman are as cheap as warriors to make, while the India war elephant costs as much as a sword to make!

I find the Incas to be so much fun, especially on those skirmish maps where they can zip through hills - the Inca settlers get to their spots very quickly, and their blocker cities get 2-4 food per hill tile with that terrace improvement - which they can make for their teammates as well! :crazyeye:

Why not just uncheck babylon when hosting?

For myself i don't play people with paid DLCs even if i got them. It assumes that i don't play against people taking babylon or other top notch civs ;)

Hope they wont make the same mistake in G&K.

It's not a mistake since you can have them in options. Everything should be optionnal. No mistakes at all.

KM, agree re bab rush - i too have all dlc, finally caved in after holding out in protest of dlc model.

Problem with public dlc games (noobs?) is you could prob steamroll map with standard archer rush (6-10 archers plus 6 swords) or even less, so we need to play some duel and 2v2s with these civs to see if spain can upgrade to compete with their crazy gold - albeit map dependant.

Didnt know inca can build improvment for teammate! Nice

Agree that g n k will prob suit the NQ more than the CPL
