My birthday is coming up soon, and while I do not really want anything, I did come upon a very nice use of my monitor. Unfortunately, it would require a wireless mouse and keyboard if I ever wanted to continually use it as such. So, I figure, might as well ask for a new mouse and keyboard for my birthday. Having looked around on newegg Im slightly skeptical of what I actually want.

So, my only requirements are as such:
-Has to be wireless
-It can function well up to 10 feet away from the reciever, which most likely will not be in visible range.
-The keyboard should be comfortable to use
-Under 150$ for both is preferable.

Lastly, should I even bother with wireless mice and keyboards?

Well, I was thinking of 150$ for mouse and keyboard, although thats likely not enough.

Not going to happen unless you are willing to sacrifice some performance in the mouse and keyboard. (FWIW, I've never had a problem with responsiveness using my G7. I have had the occasional issue with the laser getting gunky, but thats a problem with my mousepad, not the mouse.)

$150 is quite reasonable for a mouse/keyboard combo, neither MS or Logitech have a single non-Bluetooth set selling for over $150.

If you're going to sit on your butt at a normal desk right in front of the comp, it's stupid to waste money on wireless stuff.

Which im trying not to do. I have a large enough monitor that I can see from more than 2 feet away, and I have a chair thats too low to be used with a wired mouse and keyboard. When I was asking that question, I was thinking more so along the lines of performance, batteries etc on whether or not its worth it

If the mouse and keyboard are going to be used heavily, both wireless, rechargeable batteries are going to save hundreds of dollars in the long run. Which would mean $150 is the minimum.

How big is the mouse in the pro pack? I dont want a smaller than normal one as those i find to be very uncomfortable.

I'm not sure, I'm seeing a different mouse in the pictures than the one included last time I had a look at that bundle.

You can probably drop by your local bestbuy/futureshop/staples/whatever to see if they have one on display.

Or you could just use rechargable AA batteries, which most technology-inclined people have anyway, and save yourself the hassle of needing to wait for your mouse to charge if it runs out when you're using it.

The Logitech G7 is probably the best wireless mouse, should be under $150. Not too sure of the range though.

I have one, and it works great, even across the room and through my desk. Great battery life too.

Now if you can find me a US online retailer that carries them. Newegg doesn't sell them anymore, and from the looks of it, the ones they do have are pretty crappy.

Are you wanting to do FPS/RTS games with this setup? If not I would go for a Keyboard with a mouse built into it. Try this web site: http://www.fentek-ind.com/wireless.htm

I was looking at getting the following for $79: http://www.fentek-ind.com/kbmrfotb45ub.htm

Also, make sure you get RF not IR. IR is like your TV/DVD remote in that you have to point it directly at the pickup.

And the part that should make you very happy:
Four AA batteries included.

I will most likely be gaming, so I do want a dedicated mouse. Plus I despise trackballs.

I have a logitech G7 and highly recommend it. It comes with two batteries so one charges while you use the other.

They are not AA batteries so are not easily replaced but they are a good bit lighter than AA and add less weight to the mouse.

Logitech software is good for assigning keys so you can easily map game commands to the mouse.

I also have the Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite Keyboard and while it works decently (and uses 3xAA batteries) I feel the range could be a bit better. At more than 5 feet the responsiveness really drops off.

To me that looks awful. With that abomination you can't even use mouse with one hand
