Well starting off the intro movie stutters and is unwatcheble.

Then the wonder movies crash my game. So far I have had crashes with The Great Wall, Library, and Colosus, then I shut the movies off cause it was pissing me off.

By the way my system ran everything perfectly on high setting for both Warlords and Vanilla.

For me the intro runs fine but I get the crash to desktop on wonder movies as well. Its awful and renders the game unplayable.

My system:
P4 2.4c @ 2.8GHz
1GB DDR400 RAM
GeForce 6800GT (AGP)
Windows XP Pro SP2

the intro movie is stuttery (I know its not a word, but it should be), but my in game movies work fine. When I started my first game, I thought "oh crap" here we go again, but that is the only real problem I have seen. Anyone have suggestions about how to fix this?

Alright, well I deleted and uninstalled a bunch of mods I had on my system,

Total Realism
Civ Gold
Canada Mod
Modern Warfare
Japenese Mythology
Realm of Fantasy

and now my opening movie works fine? So I am not sure what is what but the opening works now.

BUT my ingame movies, for the wonders still causes me to Crash, so anyone have any thoughts on this?
Am I the only one with this problem?

i have no mods installed. I just play the game the way it comes out of the box.

I have the same problem on both my desktop and my laptop. On the laptop I was in RFC. After the crash, if I loaded a save from the turn before the wonder was completed the movie would play. On the desktop I am playing Gods of Old and the wonder movies cause a crash every time. I have the 3.02 patch installed. I have disabled movies and am rolling on.

My wonder movies crash as well. Tried building the stonehenge, and the game shuts down. I've downloaded and installed the latest patch.

My pc:

Intel(R)Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00 GHz
1GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 7300LE (latest driver)
Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2

Didn't have any problems before with Warlords. haven't uninstalled warlords before installing BtS. Will turn the wonder movies of and wait for a fix..

:)

Well, it is kinda annoying to disable the movies, I want at least to watch the new ones. I read somewhere else that setting "HideMovieBackground = 1" solves the problem and it worked for me. This is in the ini file and plays the movie with a black background.

Well, this is interesting. I didn't try to play a wonder movie in-game after a reboot, after the installation, maybe this is wrong to begin with. However, I tried "hidemoviebackground" and it works, even if the sound in the wonder movie is horrible.

In Neverwinter Nights, changing audio options could have a huge effect on game speed, for some reason. I've tried to play around a bit, but didn't find anything wild.. Though the wonder movies work now, with less-than-perfect audio.

My advice:
Make sure to restart your pc before playing the game.
Follow blid's advice, if it still doesnt work
Play around with your audio settings

I'm no expert, but it worked for me.

I had the same problem as Azander, with Stonehenge (being my first wonder) crashing the game. I reloaded from save and it kept happening. I applied the patch 3.02 and it still happened. Turned off movies and it doesn't crash. I'd sure like to see the new movies. Since I often pick the next thing in the city to build without thinking much about it (second nature like driving a car) I don't even know when I have completed a wonder half the time now. Whether or not I watched the movies before, at least I'd know my wonders were done by the starting of the video.

Typical buggy PC game upon release.

I had a similar problem in BTS. The movies either would give me badly crackling audio and no video, or would play in chunks of varying length. I solved it by:

1) Turning down the graphics detail
2) Turning off AA
3) Setting the in-game speaker configuration to "use system config"
4) Making sure my drivers were up to date
5) I also had to change the resolution to my laptop's default, but I doubt that helped

The intro and the oracle movie have played for me since, but I haven't had the chance to fully test it. Hopefully this helps someone.

Did you have a NOCD version of Vanilla or Warlords previously installed on this computer?

I had a NOCD (read: hacked) version installed on my laptop so I could keep all my discs at home with my desktop (yes, I purchased new all 3 games at full retail), and after installing BtS over it, movies crashed the system at random.

After uninstalling all the NOCD versions and reinstalling Vanilla & BtS from the discs, the system runs without a hitch.

So, if you installed any of the various NOCD versions (possibly even legit ones from Steam or Direct2Drive), this may be the cause.

BTW, Vanilla, Warlords & BtS (all legit) are all installed on top of each other on my desktop and never gave a hickup.

Ditto on the movie bug. Get right up to Apostolic Palace and we crash.

Quick fix: Disable movies.

Of course, this doesn't fix the problem when the game crashes in it's later stages... but it's worth adding to the pile.

Well, it is kinda annoying to disable the movies, I want at least to watch the new ones. I read somewhere else that setting "HideMovieBackground = 1" solves the problem and it worked for me. This is in the ini file and plays the movie with a black background.

Thanks for the hint - I had no more crashes with the black background!

I am having the in-game movies crashing as well. I guess I'll have to disable the in-game movies. The intro movie plays fine. I have a GeForce 6600 GT with the latest drivers, and DirectX is updated to 9.0c.

I have the same problem as the original poster. The Initial movie stutters and when I complete a wonder, I sometimes (not always)get a black pop-up window and the game crashes to desktop. The PC in question is an HP Pavillion model a1510n

I was able to resolve this issue by enabling the black background during movies option in the ini file.
