Where exactly is this ini file?

The CivilizationIV.ini file. Do a search for it, then see comment #9 in this thread for the variable to edit:

I'm at work so I can't get the full path, but mine is under My Documents (this will vary depending on where you decided to install)

Ok, so I am bored out of my mind, so I start doing clean-up on my CPU and decide to check for updates on everything, suffice to say there was a update for my videocard, I downloaded it and no more movie crashes!

So anyone who is having the crashes I suggest updating your driver's.

I got to watch my space race video!!!!!!!!!!

It was rather disappointing



Scratch that, my wonder movies still cause C2D, but my victory movie played, so now I got the intro and victory working but no wonders.

I will add to the thread just so "They" know the extent of the problem. I will Look into the ini change and the other options and report back.

It sucks that I want to play RTW and the new update for htat has the movie right at the start and crashes. So I can't play it!

Ok changed the ini file and it worked for a while. I played the start of a regular game and then went into RTW and it was running fine. 6 hours later went back to play again and it started to crash.

Any other suggestions?

It seems there's still no proper fix for this. We'll just have to wait for a patch.. :/

I just got BTS for Christmas (I know, pretty late!), and installed patch 3.13, but I'm also having the movie crash problem. One thing that might have changed with one of the later patches is that now when you set the movie play to medium quality in the graphics options, it automatically removes the 3D background and replaces it with a black background, maybe similar to the ini background remove edit.

Is there still no permanant fix for this problem?

Well, it is kinda annoying to disable the movies, I want at least to watch the new ones. I read somewhere else that setting "HideMovieBackground = 1" solves the problem and it worked for me. This is in the ini file and plays the movie with a black background.

I reported earlier --erroneously -- that this fix did not work. But it turned out I had edited the basic Civ4 file, not BtS. When I made the change in the BtS file, it stopped the wonder movie CTD problem.

Did NOT help with the stuttering in the intro movie.
