My apologies if this has already been asked and answered, but I looked carefully through the manual, the FAQ and 15 pages of this thread and couldn't find an answer.

Is there a command that will alow me to move all the units stacked on one tile simultaneously? Example: Say I have 5 caravels and two galleys being escorted by two ironclads as a convoy all on the same tile...can I move this whole fleet with one command instead of laboriously moving each caravel, galley and ironclad separately?

On land, if I have a stack of 20 assorted musketeers, immortals and catapults all on one tile in enemy territory apporaching to attack an enemy city, can i move them all with one command instead of moving each unit separately?

thanks for any answers...

I don't know about PTW, but if you're playing vanilla Civ3, the "J" command will only move one type of unit at a time. In your first example, you could move all 5 caravels together, or the two ironclads or the two galleys, but you'd still need three actions to shift the entire stack.

In PTW, there are both one-unit-type stack movements, and full stack movements. I'm not sure about the exact commands for both, but I think full stack movement is J, and one-unit-type movement is shift-J, or something of that sort.

ok what the heck am i doing wrong... i hit J , Shift J etc... but it is still just moving one. do i hit the J key first then drag where i want them to go???

No. J works like G - you hit J then move the cursor to the square you want them to go to (even if it's simply the adjacent square)and click on it.

Took me ages to work that one out - I kept trying to use the numberpad as usual, which only moved one unit.

ok i am going to have to go with NO on this one, LOL. i hit J one time on a stack of horseman, only one moves? do i have to hold J down???

Ok. Have the other horsemen moved yet? If they moved already, they won't move again. Or, are they fortified? You have to unfortify them before trying to move the stack. Sorry if these seem kinda obvious, but people make silly mistakes sometimes...

Holy crap, I didn't know this.. this is so useful lol

Does 'j' work in civ 2 also?

Also if you use ctrl-j it will move all units of the same type in a stack. (didnt see anyone mention this)

Also at least in my games right above the box where it tells you your gold, money per turn, year, etc there are these specific commands. Perhaps you need show advanced options button on.

In PTW, there is a button for each over the window (what ever it is called) in the bottom right corner.

and, "J" is whole stack & "ctrl-J" is the current unit.

I already said it. :p But it is good to reinforce the idea.

Whoa...the quote, "15 pages of this thread" makes it seems like that it was supposed to be a part of the Newbie thread. This is purely speculation though.

I think he meant this forum, not this thread. But hey, kudos for looking first before loading the front page up with repeat posts!
