mp for beginners?

hi there!
I've just rediscovered civ2 after a long period of neglect but I've never played an mp game before.. I was wondering if anyone knew of gamers who play at chieftain/warlord level who would be willing to be patient with a newbie?

I am in awe of almost everone on this forum... how the hell do you get a civ score of 3000% +? My personal best was a lowly 48%!!!! (and I was damn impressed!)

I've just tried to set up a dial up game with a friend but the stupid damn computer keeps wittering on about waiting for gaming computer to connect??? what does it mean? I am the game computer.. connected and "waiting for players" and my friend has my correct ip address... what is the problem... please help before my keyboard gets hurled through the monitor!

Ive never played a multiplayer game before.. I've played civ 2 before, but with the computer..Id like to play a game or so with you....email me when you want to play...

It won't be a tutorial or anything, but ANY question you have I will answer to the best of my ability.

3000+ is nice for scoring against AI, but those nifty tricks will get squashed in multiplayer.

I hardly ever play single player anymore, not worth my time.

As for playing Multiplayer you need, as far as I know, either the "Multiplayer Gold" or "Test of Time" version of Civ 2. Both incorporate the Multiplayer options the original Civ 2 does not. So off you go and fetch either of those, and then you can play MP all you want.

As for a newbie MP game I'd be interested. Perhaps not a *newbie* per se, but I'm more of a "happy gamer" than one who does everything he can to win and uses every little trick in the book. So I think I'd be fairly easy to kill for most of those enormous-score maniacs on here.

If you guys are playing with Multi-player gold edition, you had best download and install the latest patch (Availible in Civfanatics Downloads), or you might get an "incompatible" error message if you try to play someone else.

All of the regular MP players have long since done this, and it only takes a few minutes.
