if you enter into an MPP and are then drawn into war without instigating it....and then after peace is declared (either initiated by you or third party getting their ass whooped) does your rep get a hit because you are being disloyal to the MPP?

what if the other civ (the one you have MPP with) makes peace? do they get a rep hit?

if yes to both, then how are you supposed to end a war w/o getting a rep hit?!?!

the only option would be to negotiate three way and AFAIK you can't do that!

are you saying getting into a war against an MPP partner with another MPP partner? To avoid rep hit, wait until the MPP is out of it's 20 turn period of enforced time, then go to the diplomacy and cancel it, then make peace with the civ at war.

This is a weakness in the diplomacy module. Should be able to decide whether or not to honor the MPP, not go into automatic war. Should also be able to broker a three-way (or four-way, etc) peace. This is possible in Europa Universalis, so shouldn't be too hard to put into Civ3.

It appears to me that the AI exploits the MPP almost as much as human players (and that's a lot;)).

edit: one thing you should never do, is when you are fighting a war and you have an MPP ally, don't make peace with your opponent and include an MPP in the peace terms. You will then find yourself at war with your "former" ally.

more.

i think it was killer who started a thread not too long ago where he was polling people as to a change to MPPs and Military Alliances. He was gonna send the results to firaxis before so they could fix it before PTW. Anyway, i think it was killer, so maybe something will get done.

Dont enter into an mpp untill your ready to fight and generally ask others to enter into an mpp instead of them asking you. Once in an mpp, declare war before your partner does. Control who is at war with who and make sure it is to your advantage.

It will be cheaper to give 1gpt to each civ every 10 turns(that is 1 contract of 1 gpt spaced 10 turns apart) instead of going to war or trying to get protection from an agreement which will plunge you into war.
