I saw on TACC a great idea for 'multiplayer' Medieval Total War.

Basically, one person starts off a new Singleplayer campaign and when his king dies, the saved game file is handed on to the next person(who then takes over as the next king) and so on.

[At the end of each reign, a screenshot of the mini-map is posted for everyone to admire (or mock) the skill of each 'king' ]

It puts an extra spin on the game and makes everyone behave like real kings - eg: they have to make their mark on the world before their reign is over. etc.

Is anyone interested? I know a few people here have Medieval TW, and we'll need about 4 or 5 people to get a decent rota going.

Here is an example of one that I am currently involved in at another site:

If we get enough interest we could even get our own sub forum.

This sounds neat! I'm not exactly sure how to load other people's saved games onto my own machine, but I don't think that would be much of a problem to learn. I'm in if enough people want to do this.

In other words, a succession game, somewhat like what we have for Civ2 and Civ3...

Though with only one game, I doubt TF will want to open a separate forum for it. :p

If we advertised it them we might be able to get around 10 people and then we could run two games and hopefully attract more people and then the sub forum would be worthwhile.

You simply need to put the saved game file in your MTW saves folder for it to work.

Cool now we need to start discussing what difficulty level we want to play at, what playing order and of course which empire will we control.

Strangely enough, I usually do better with more peripheral factions. I just won on normal level as the Aragonese and right now i'm doing very well as the Danish. The main annoyance with being France, Spain, or the HRE is that other powers send their damn crusades through your territory and drain your armies.

We might try the Italians. Establishing a Mediterranean trading empire can be VERY profitable. Jolly Old England is also a good option.

I've been trying to play as the Italians and just got bogged down with the fact that you are surrounded my catholic nations. I assume we will be starting in the early age and playing on normal difficulty so that more people can play.

The English would be a good choice but we chose them in the other game so perhaps we should choose another nation. What about the Polish?

I've tried the Polish before and it's very difficult to get an economy started. Poland and Silesia are both landlocked and cannot trade goods overseas. Upgrading the farmlands there requires lots of time and money. Conquering Pomerania and Prussia takes time, and also requires a large outlay of money to develop the provinces in order to make them productive. Polish Retainers are mediocre heavy cavalry, and when the High Middle Ages start, Poland will be directly in the path of the Mongol Horde. This doesn't mean that playing as Poland is impossible, just that it will be difficult.

Perhaps we should try an Islamic faction. The Almohads have the advantage early in the game of inexpensive, yet reliable troops such as Almohad Urban Militia and Berber Camels. The Egyptians would also be a good choice, although they will be the target of Europe's Crusading effort. It's almost worth being an Islamic faction to not have to deal with the Catholic church!

Does everybody here have MTW: Viking Invasion? We could do the Unification of Britain campaign.

Hey, I'll get in on this! I think we should play with..... wait for it...... wait for it..... the Byzantines, from Early. I'm not that good yet either, but I can usually mop up on the second-lowest difficulty. I have too many games to focus on to get really good at one, but this sounds like fun, and I'll definitely participate.

Good point, Duffman. The Byzantines have a definite advantage early in the game. Armies consisting of Byz. Infantry, Trebizond Archers, Kataphraktoi, and Varangian Guard are almost unbeatable by contemporary forces.

Since we all have MTW and can all get the patch, we should play MTW 1.1 for now. The Polish stategy is to bribe the rebels to the east and then continue to bribe until you have a decently sized empire. I don't really want to play as the Byzantines as they have an easy starting position plus I played them in my last game, but we can always have a vote.

I'm up for it. Let me know what to do.

We should have a vote for who to play as.

I would personally pick the Italians. It's not too hard going North but the Vatican IMHO adds a very interesting angle, especially because it is so damn hard to keep hold of, due to the 'Return Of The Pope' battles.
