So I was playing a 2v2v2 multiplayer game of Civ4 and was allied with a player from German, who most likely had a German install. The game played out fine (I won :D) but after the game I noticed that Civ4 installed a whole bunch of folders in German all over my computer. I'm kinda picky on my computer's organization and found it kinda annoying that I have folders called "Dokumente und Einstellungen" and the German player's personal name with his documents. These were created to hold save games.

So i'm just inquiring if Firaxis knows about this annoyance and possible personal information breach, if they intended to fix it, or if there is already a work around against it. I really don't want to play a multiplayer game and have folders created under my name on everyone else's computer..

Was his personal name the one he used to play the game, ie. Victoria, Alexander, Bismarck. I havent tried the MP yet. Still struggling to get SP to run smoothly. It might have been the user name he used to call his computer, I noticed that Civ 4 uses it by default, check your INI file, you can change the default for the names and alias.

INI file is located in your my documents, under my games, under sid's civ 4,...in that folder. make sure you backup the file before making changes to it.

*bump*

It was the name of the folder within the Documents folder, so yes their real name. I played more multiplayer games and when I opened my Documents folder I found 3-4 more folders (with names like Ted, Ben, etc.) all containing save files. Annoying. :(

Also, I checked the ini file and it does not list the name it used to create folders in it. So it must be grabbing the names directly from the computer. Anyone know how to change your username in XP SP2? I can change different profile names, but the user name remains the same.

With my computer, Civ IV used my computer name, which can be change via System Properties. Right Click My Computer -> properties -> Computer Name. At least thats the name Civ IV used as the default for the first couple of games I played until I changed it in the ini file. I wasnt sure which one so I changed all the ones that had my computer name as the value.
