Multiplayer Game Stories Thread

Some people want to know how the multiplayer games go (without sorting through the 36+ page of the multiplayer thread), so only post in this thread if your post is a recounting of a multiplayer game (if you want to chat or remark on a post in here try to do it in the Multiplayer thread thats already huge with chat and such so that people can see recountings here without sorting).

Multiplayer Team Game
Hannah the Irin of Lanun (Sureshot), Arendel? of Ljosalfar (Lord Vermillion), and ? of Khazad (Chandrasekhar)
VS.
3 AI's Sheelba of The Clan, Keelyn of Balseraphs, Alexis of Calabim (is that right?)
Inland Sea map
Always War
Raging Barbs
Emperor

We had decided to use those three civs because we figured they each have special workers abilities that we could all benefit. This did not end up being the case because we died before it could happen.

I moved my settler to the enemies borders right off to land grab. I managed to get my second city up nicely. My cities were fairly well defended.
Chand with his Dwarves were along the northern part of the sea, the other front of the war.
Verm with his elves were behind us, safe from the enemies, building up his cities to come to our aid.

I had a warrior who promoted high fast and became stronger than Orthus in one on one combat and defeated him in open combat! I named him the Raider King and he managed to raze a couple of Sheelbas new cities and kill Rantine too... but then he died to a mercenary on odds he should have won while defending... I managed to get the axe back on a new warrior (who became heir to the axe of Orthus and thus a Raider Prince) and he escaped my soon to be razed cities.. at the same time the Khazad were falling to the mercenaries of Keelyn. The Raider Prince brought the axe all the way to the kingdom of the elves (having had to dodge many barbarians and barbarian cities on the way) for the Last Battle. The axe made it to the last battle just in time as the forces of Keelyn came from the north razing all the elven cities, and my last Raider Prince died defending the last elven stronghold!

The starting spots looked nice, although a disputed strategy by Sureshot (which actually ended up being quite effective) of moving for 3 or 4 turns toward the enemy slowed us down initially a bit. Normal early growth and expansion with the Runes being founded in the Khazad (My) capital, and shortly thereafter, the Octopus Overloards was founded in the Lanun(Sureshot) Capital. After realizing I had copper in my capital, I began pumping out Dwarven soldiers for the long route to support the Lanun from the oncoming AI onslaught. Quite humorusly, many cities were founded by our enemies in the distance between myself(Khazad) and the Lanun(Sureshot). I was able to make short work of these new settlements with an all movement promoted stack of a bout 10 Dwarven soldiers. After destroying countless settlements, the enemy leader Barney, and streaming barbs, my newly promoted stack of (still 10) Dwarven Soldiers arrived (heh oh ya... one of these dwarves killed Orthus too :D). On the way to the land of the Lanun a sighting of and enemy Typhoid Mary occured, but I was unable to dispatch her (she later died on an assault on the Lanun capital I believe). Now that my first wave of dwarves ( the second wave of about 10 were en route at this point) had made it to their desination, they headed straight for the capital to defend against an assault of wood golems, various hunters and warriors. The defense was successful, so we decided to use the combination of Lanun seapowr, and Dwarven muscle to make an amphibious assult on the enemy front line city (I cant remember which civ was on the front). The assault was smashingly sucessful, but the reinforcements became overwhelming after the city was razed. An extraction was in order. The Lanun ships arrived at the designated rendevous point just in time, and the dwarves were once again headed back to the Lanun capital for defense. During the attack, Sureshot had devised a quite ingenious defense system comprised of pirate cove bottlenecks. This proved very effective against the oncoming hordes of enemy golems/hunters. Around this same time, I had managed to send an expeditionary force of 5 dwarves (one being a lvl 7 dwarf appropriately named Chuck Norris :)) all the way NE to the Hippus capital to help scout/support. The heat was intensifying on the Northern front, so I figured what better way to turn the tide than to counter attack. With Mufin constantly streaming axemen to the aid of the Hippus, I managed to send "Chuck" and his pals all the way across the northern border through the hills :) to behind the enemy front line. From there I managed to raze 3 enemy cities (one was rebuilt right after I razed it in the same place), and pillage vast amounts of infrastructure before "Chuck" was officially listed as "Missing in Action" :p  . Unfortunately, a few turns later after Bambur was born, the biggest enemy of all decided to rear its ugly head.......SLEEP! The game was saved, and I personally am eagerly awating the finale of this truly epic battle.

PS: I may have missed some points here and there, but generally I think this pretty much sums up the first half. I will finish this write up if we ever finish the battle, which I truly hope we do!

Lanun history of the previous posts game

The Lanun decided to head east towards the enemy front. During this time agriculture was founded and the Lanun were able to make use of their nomad status to change civics without the usual loss of production and growth (since they weren't producing or growing anyways :p). An ideal city spot (two golds on plains hills with tons of floodplains and some mountains with strategic potential) was sighted (and sited, since I immediately made plans to build there), but so was a scout of Auric (one of the enemies), which forced me back to a subpar site that my units could reach before the enemy.

The beginning battles went horribly, losing odds they should have won (warriors losing to scouts is just wrong!), and with the subpar capital city site, things were looking bad. Still, the Lanun worked to get their ideal city site that was their goal, no matter what.

The warriors of the Lanun strived for the ideal site, but a legendary lion (combat 3 O_o) was guarding the woods on the way there. The warriors evaded them for many years in a game of cat and mouse, yet made little progress. Eventually the settler came and with its greater mobility the warrior and settler were able to get safely to the ideal city site.

Then the Lanun founded Octopus Overlords in the ideal city, named Firstfort. The enemy sent wave after wave of warriors and woodgolems at the city. Barnaxus himself stood outside the city organizing the siege. But the undead Drown of the Lanun held their ground and gained much experience, becoming forces to be reckonned with.

And then the dwarves arrived, they came a-razing enemy cities, and there was now time for pirates coves to better the strategic position, and the most powerful drown, named the Army of Three, began bringing terror to the enemy, razing a few cities singlehandedly. Several Lanun boats aided the dwarves in their advanced city razings.

News from the north brought sadness with the death of the great Raider cavalry unit, the Core. But the Hippus were still holding and the Kurioates were advancing on the enemy.

The battle is far from over, but what was once bleak was turning out much nicer for the Lanun...

One City Challenge

Deathling came up with the idea that we try to be the first to get Orthus Axe, and make that the point of the game, then we modified it to get and keep it for 100 turns (during which time other players could try to take it from you).

For my part, I wandered around aimlessly with my settler and eventually settled in a horrible spot lol. We were all fairly close together, with large portions of the map in fog, though something with One City Challenge or some other setting caused there to be no barbarians except animals and giants and Orthus (even 80 turns after Orthus was killed there still were no goblins or orcs).

Shortly after Orthus appeared, just outside the Grigori lands, Chand killed him with a a highly leveled hunter(?). The rest of us had had no luck killing animals and were quite lacking in experience. The first battles saw Chand hold out easily against us.

After some more building up, more assaults were put into action, and though all Chands improvements were pillaged, it was much too late, for he got Rangers early in the game. The two hippus civs were both working on Stirrups (I was, think Jono was) but alas, that tech requires double the research amount of the tech for Rangers, and the unit gotten would still have been weaker and no match (plus i would have needed archery on top of it) and we deemed Chand the winner after holding the axe of orthus for 80 or so turns.

From Cassiel's (my) perspective:

With the foreknowledge that he could not expand his empire indefinitely [read- one city challenge], Cassiel knew that hoping for great quantities of metals to be found within his borders was foolish. Considering this, he decided that he would build a great army that would require neither copper nor horses. When the great adventurer Branding came, he chose not the club, but the hatchet, becoming a mighty scout.

Education was perfected firstly, with the cottages being placed on the bountiful lands of the cows. The city expanded quickly, but as there was only one forest, and only a few plains, buildings were constructed slowly. After much work, a hunting lodge was completed, and Branding became a hunter more powerful than any other. Soon after, Orthus, the barbarian king, was seen outside the lands of the Grigori, but Branding struck him down with the help of a simple warrior. The Axe was held by the Grigori.

Over the next hundred years, things were mostly peaceful as the Hippus raiders were forced to retreat after failing to capture the axe, and another heroic hunter, Melusine, came into being. The cottages became towns, and technological research flourished. Animal handling was perfected, and Branding became the most powerful being in the world, as he was upgraded to a Ranger, still holding Orthus' axe. The peace was not to last, however.

It was a mighty, coordinated assault, led by two giants, seeking vengeance for their third brothers' early death at the hands of Branding. In their wake came many soldiers of Kilmorph, seeking to add the Axe to the hoard of the Earthmother, and a swarm of horsebound Hippus raiders. One by one, the Hippus razed the Grigori towns to the ground, coming in almost as fast as Branding and Melusine could despatch them.

And yet in the end, after many years of battle, it became clear that the Grigori capital of Midget would hold steadfast, and that the Axe would never be recovered. The Hippus and the Khazad reluctantly admitted their defeat, and the Grigori were victorious.

How's that?

Early on in the game Draconian suprise attacked my 2nd city with his hero warrior (Branding) and his regular warriors. I swore to Draconian that if he attacked me I would never call peace - one of us would be dead and there would be no mercy. Draconian did not heed my council, his attack was not entirely unexpected as I saw his massed legions of terrorists coming towards me. My brave (foolhardy?) merrymen firmly stood their ground as Draconian threw his hero at my city - yet righteousness prevailed.

Branding was dead.

Draconian's forces slinked away, tails between their legs. Draconian begged for peace, yet I knew better than to trust one so unworthy of my love. Draconian built a second hero and kept him XPing in preparation for his next swarm of his fell shock troops.

Draconian finally advanced and defeated my brave reinforcements in a cowardly dogpiled desert battle. Cowardly dogpiling was the order of the day as Draconian flung his shock troops headlong my city - each time only to be repelled by my well trained and resilient merrymen. Lo, victory was mine! The supposed hero retreated rather than face my valiant warriors in open combat! What manner of hero was this, I asked, who would throw his comrades in suicide raids yet tremble at the knees at flee at the sight of battle?

Be assured Draconian, I will never rest. My troops will never rest. The gods will never rest. You and your fell heathen troops will never find rest. We shall go on to the end, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

As the age of innocents faded away, with all the luck we had, we must have received at least 8 technologies from the tribal villages, then as our scouts fell to the deaths, they came. The wretched orcs rammed down my city, I had completely forgotten about my allies and the enemy and could not know if I were ever to think of them again. As the goblins and orcs fell on my lands, I felt relief, my most advanced unit of warriors must've killed atleast 20 of them before it happened. The gong sounded from miles away, the reign of Orthus, the barbarian king, had come. It was not long before his forces had burnt down my farms, killed my workers and cleared the land of roads. Nothing would attack my great warrior, trained to kill anything which slightly resembled the wretched orc which held the Axe, when he left the city the orcs came running through, blood dripped into the ocean. I knew what I had to do, it was time to rid my lands from the wretched orcs, but how? And then it all froze. To be continued.

Do not believe in Bad Player, here is the only true story of the heroic death of the allmighty Branding at the hand of the evil and scheming Balseraphs.

In the early years of civilization Cassiels scouts found out that their land was completely surrounded by heathens (you know, those people that believe in gods). Unfortunately they had found no technologies in the two tribal villages they encountered and the Grigori woud only be able to build one more decent city.
Seeing that one of his neighbours were the insane Balserpahs he knew that a war was unavoidable. So rather than wasting his ressources at founding the second city he decided that total war was the way to go, the Grigori had to be protected! In the early years he gave the order to only build warriors and one worker to improve the land. Mining was researched so that the Grigori would be able to work the gold near Midgar. After the allmighty Branding was born Cassiel decided that he would be trained up for some years before finally joining his army of warriors. The next technology to be researched was Bronze Working, Cassiel was confident that some copper would be found either in the land of the Grigori or in the land of the Balseraphs (soon to be land of the Grigori as well).
Some turns before Bronze Working was invented, Cassiel in all his wisdom declared that it was time to finally end the threat from the Balseraphs once and for all. The allmighty Branding marched forth with the warriors. The Balseraphs had already founded a second city near Midgar. This city was chosen to be liberated first. Cassiel praised the insanity of the Balseraphs as his scouts reported that the city was only defended by two or three merrymen. He ordered Branding and three of his best Warriors (well they all had 0 xp) to take the city while the rest of the army defended his border, those troops would be joined with Branding to assault the Balseraphs capitol right after the fall of their other city.
As Cassiel was preparing his declaration of war a messenger from the Balseraphs arrived, he delivered a clear message from the ruler of the Balseraphs: "If you dare to attack me now, there will never be peace between us again. We will fight untill one of us is vanquished." Those fools Cassiel thought, no one was able to withstand the power of Branding and now they were threatening the Grigori with eternal war, he had done wisely ordering Branding to destroy them. Dismissing that message as the newest insanity of the baleraphs leader Cassiel sent the messenger back with his declaration of war*.
A year later the allmighty Branding was standing at the gates of the balseraph city. When he saw that the defending merrymen were no match for his power (99,3%) he declared that he would take the city by his own hands, so no brave grigori warrior would need to die. But something went wrong that fateful day, Branding died without taking a single merrymen to the grave, he who had once been called the most heroic and allmighty defender of Midgar was henceforth known as Branding Weakling. When Cassiel heard of Brandings death his Generals urged him to order an all-out assault on the city to avenge Branding, but Cassiel in all his wisdom knew that the Grigori wouldn't be able to liberate the city without reinforcements from the second army which was currently guarding their border against counterattacks. How could they hope for any luck in battle on the day that Branding had died? Thus Cassiel ordered the surviving troops of Brandings army to move back. A few years later Bronze Working was invented, but no copper was to be found in the lands of the Grigori and Balseraphs. Cassiel knew now that the war was only bringing harm to the Grigori but the Baleraphs were true to their words, the war would go on for all eternity!
Cassiel had negleted economy in the favour of military, assuming that his army would be able to make up for it by liberating cities, but the military had let him down. The Grigori were now far behind the other civilizations, but Cassiel was not going to give up, the Grigori needed him.
After many years Branding was reborn in Midgar, disguised as a woman. Cassiel declared that he/she should be named "Branding Weakling reborn" and ordered him to train up to the power Branding had posseded before his death. A few years later a new Grigori Army marched from Midgar to that damned city. Many warriors had come to avenge Branding under the command of the new Branding. Arriving at their destination they saw that the evil Balseraph had some highly trained merrymen in their city, they had been under constant attack from barbarians. Brandings army hadn't fought before, even the barbarians weren't foolishly enough to attack the Grigori. While the Grigori prepared the siege some Balseraph troops were marching through the nearby desert to aid the city. They were quickly dispatched by grigori warriors.
All forces were in position, the Grigori had many more men than the Balseraphs and were commanded by a mighty hero. Cassiel gave the final order to start the assault. This time the warriors were sent in first, it was a fierce and bloody fight. And again all went wrong. All Grigori were slain without killing a single Balseraph, Cassiel ordered the two surviving warrios and Branding Coward back.

Cassiel vowed that the Grigori would come back to finaly liberate the city. There would never be peace again between the Grigori and Balseraphs. Avenge would be take for all the brave warriors that died. And if the Balseraphs should eventually assault Midgar he would not plea for mercy, he wasn't going to grant them mercy either.

Still about this game:
--------------------

People say that madness is contagious, and a mad Leader can make for a mad population. And that was proven truth some nights ago. Perpetach was desolated, his happy and properous civilization faced great danger with the coming of Orthus. All the people were devasted, Merrymen patrolled the city, patiently waiting for the ultimate doom.

Orthus finally attacked, but a group of brave Merrymen managed to hit him hard before they died. With blood on their eyes for the fall of their friends another group manage to slay the barbarian king and take his axes as prize.

An incredible party took the city for the next 3 years. A new brewery was even finished in comemoration. And after the celebrations, extased by that fantastic victory, Perp decide they should conquer the whole continent, after all, they were invincible now.

The silly and boring Elohim were just south. Those stupid heathen followers of money were asking for it. They wouldn't even know what hit them. That sure was true, until Bambur was born. And 6 years later, a roaming and lonely Loki was the sole survival of the greatest civilization of all times.

The joint nation of the Hippus, Rhoanna and Tasunke each leading a strong center of power, came into a double war. The Elohim and the Bannor had joined together with the Orcs and the Doviello to rid the world of all neutral elements before they were to begin their battle with each other, as they wanted a true battle, without outside interference.

The Hippus stood strong and made some ground, and focused on their best strength, their cavalry. Rhoanna's cities, which were between both the good and evil alliance, fell before those of Tasunke. Luckily Rhoanna had left the cities to bring war to their enemies with her Raiders. Though their own cities were captured and under occupation, her Raider force burned several of the enemies cities.

But then news came that Tasunkes center of power had fallen in a tragic year of failure for their military, so Rhoannas raiders made their way to attempt a retaking and to reinforce Tasunkes new position, as his raiders had been wiped out. She arrived too late, and the last city was taken, but a wounded Tasunke and an badly wounds group of warriors made their escape, and Rhoanna came in time to ward off those that would finish them, and to provide a route to the forested hills in uncharted lands.

To this day Tasunke still plans his retaking of his stronghold, while Rhoanna and her Raiders roam and burn the cities of the extremists.
