We have not been able to connect multiplayer. The host is fine but the client crashes 100%. Anyone else having this issue with the new code? Patch A installed on both machines.

Are you trying to play over the internet (gamespy)? The only way I have been able to play of late is with a direct IP connection - I haven't been able to manage it under LAN either. This is with FFH and all of it's modmods.

direct IP connection is what we are using. WE can play FFH2 just fine aside from my client crashing when we first start a game. He has to save immediatly and I can get back in and it is bullet proof from there or so it seems I should not have said that out loud.

Same exact problem. LAN, online, or Direct IP - nothing works. We always CTD while loading the map. Fresh installs and everything. FFH2 works perfectly for multiplayer, while FF does not.

.51 with patch A

I played Direct IP game last night with a guy that lives in another town. 051a(2) We did a tectonics map not one of the new scripts.

Connected right up, we saved for the night on turn 200, not one OOS, not one crash of any kind.

Ditto. My buddies and I are playing a World War Melee of Doom in Tectonics-Lakes-Huge with 15 total civs, the game has been utterly flawless except the Sidar founded Ashen Veil and I'm now forced to mow them down with the Bannor legions.

Wait, that's not a bug. That's frickin awesome.

Yeah, usually when playing here I get the problem of on first launch the client crashes, but on reloading the save we can play fine after that (ok, a few OOS's here and there, and slow turn times, but aside from those minor things).

What races are in when you have OOS? I'm using a custom version of some XML with my buddies that prevents the AI from being Kuriotates as well as Jotnar, and everything works fine now.

OOS's generally will happen with pretty much any civ. However, the whole OOS thing has been vastly improved since I first started playing FFH (heck, since I first started playing civ too...). Usually we'll get one somewhere around every 2-300 turns after the last reload.

Ok we were using the new map script and resorted to playing ffh2, 0 - 350 no issue at all. We will try the techtonics map, I bet that may help.

I wonder what causes that first client crash? After that even loading saves from where you quit for the night works without a first crash.

Thanks for the input guys, I hope its the map script we were using. We were using the new one, cant remember what it was.

I've heard one of the new mapscripts does foul up multiplayer. Use Tectonics.

tried techtonics and fractal and only with old races cant get it to connect. the client says load error and goes to desktop.

patch b same results no multiplayer able to connect

Sure wish I could play ff we are having to play ff2 exclusivly multiplayer. FF is fun single player which I can play fine. I have been playing without the disc in the tray wonder if that would help.

Are you all that are able to play mp playing lan or direct Ip connection? we have been trying direct IP connection.

Failed to uncompress game data was / is the crash keeping the client from playing multiplayer.

Does anyone know what that could mean. Guess I could reinstall for a 3rd time.

It means that the save isn't compatible with the current version. Are you trying to load an old savegame? Patch B broke saves, so that isn't possible. Or if you added/removed anything in the code that would also have such an effect.

We don't mess with the code, just play as is. We both even uninstall 51 using vista's equivilant of add remove programs, used explorer to delete the old folder. Reinstalled 51 and patch B and have this same error. This occures when I try to enter the game via direct IP connect when the game is running on the host machine. It transfers data and just as the game screen is about to come up it crashes.

I know your supposed to be stand alone now but the only difference I have done is use the blue marble terrain for ff2. I know that shouldn't be an issue since we can play ff2 direct ip flawlessly.
But at this point I hate playing lol vanilla ff2. Its funny calling ff2 vanilla but there you go.

We just finished a 450 turn game of ffh2 multiplayer no issues at all except I couldn't figure out how to build the VII'th alter. After I got Omnicience it wouldn't let me build it. I might get to figure it out next weekend. Although we usually start a new game.
I so much would rather be playing ff. But since 3.19 have been unable to get it to work.
