Has there been any info about Hotseat in Civ VI?

In previous civs I had most fun playing hot seat game with my brother.
Multiplayer is very time demanding for me, and single player is not competitive enough for me. ( Deity difficuly is no fun for me, because it feels like playing against cheating dumbass )

I hope it will be available from the release, so I can have fun until they fix the early buggy mess which we will surely get. :D

I'm hoping the same, tho I can't imagine it won't be in from the beginning. My partner and I play together a lot, so it'd be a shame if they failed to include Hotseat from the beginning :/

Hopefully it will be available from the very beginning. My girlfriend intends to visit me(We study in different cities)so that we can spend the week of release together building our civilizations and making sure that only ours will stand the test of time!!

Isn't hotseat more time demanding than synchronous multiplayer?

I expect there to be hotseat and maybe even a PBEM-function, but I can't remember Firaxis mentioning either.

They did say that there was a fast play multiplayer game mode being designed for Civ 6 in one of the interviews.

I always found hotseat better than online multiplayer mainly due to the nature of civ being like a board game and all that.It definetely takes quite some time more though, yet it is worth every single second...

Actually

- Hotseat doesn't suffer from Desyncs like ever, so it is one of the best platforms for playing modded games, although some still cause issues

Now, I have few demands

- I want scenarios to be supported in Hotseat, so I can play such as Into the Renaissance and other scenarios that people make and I make as well as all the scenarios Firaxis will make

- I want the ability for two human players to interact with one another on the same level as the AI does, so I want to be able to Denounce, get gossip and have the same UI as I do with AI players

- I want the ability to send MULTIPLE trade deals per turn to other human players in Hotseat, for some reason they managed to bug that one in Civ 5, where you could only send one at a time per turn (so the other had to accept/reject) and in fact completely bugs out if Player 1 sends a deal (prevents everybody else from doing any deals and only in hotseat)

- I want mod support in MP, so thankfully that should come Day 1.

- And optimize the game, the game re-loaded the map every time you switched players in Hotseat I noticed which seemed to tax the system a bit more and made it a lot more stuttery : (

Please don't screw this one up Firaxis D :

Civ 5 shipped without it if i dont remember wrong, but it was added quickly due to popular demand. Hopefully they learnt their lesson ;)

It definitely takes longer overall......but you can walk away, do things during the other players turns, save the game, play again a few days later....My son and I, (and my dad and brother-in-law at times) Play hotseat all the time.

We would be very unhappy if hotseat were not part of the first release.

A couple of the YouTube plays a couple of the test players were asked about hot seating games and they answered that at that time they didn't have an answer

This was very annoying, though I have no idea what the costs of changing it would be (performance-wise). On a related note, it also took a second at the start of each turn for the top bar (with science rates, gold, happiness etc.) to update, allowing you to see otherwise hidden stats about the previous player's civ.

Pure speculation, but my guess would be that this means they're working on hotseat but don't know whether it will be ready for release or need to wait for a patch.

I'm not really bothered if it doesn't release Day 1, as long as what they release is better than Civ 5. This also includes adding any nymber of civs I want in MP games.

Just like Civ 5, I won't buy it until it has Hotseat and not a day before.

While I enjoy playing single player, I play a lot of Hotseat with my wife as it is something we have enjoyed doing together since Civ 4. Pre-Order Bonus or not, I won't pay for a game that doesn't support a classic feature that should be there from day one. I hope they learned their lesson from Civ 5, but I won't hold my breath.

Dumb question

Having never had a multiplayer match in any Civ game, how are they handled?

For example are they long matches that last for hours on end or do they get broken up into several days?

how are they handled?

Badly :p

I am an avid multiplayer-player with friends online and on LAN. Civ V was the most unstable game I have ever had the displeasure of playing multiplayer. Frequent errors in connecting to games, crashes, host drops, freezing, slow, you name it. It was to put it nicely, horrific and unplayable. I think i managed to complete one match, ever. Never lasted beyond the medieval era with more than 4 people.

In terms of game time, allow a little more than single player, but you can play simultaneously so that's a plus :goodjob:

Supposedly there are new shorter multiplayer game modes being added to this game too, more like an hour sesh. Hopefully, and i have faith that they have, they will have improved multiplayer stability too. At least they can't have made it any worse

Although this differs from person to person. And it depends what mods you use, some mods make the game desync or unstable.

I almost only play multiplayer (1600+ hours), very regularly, and never had any problems like that.

But of course, I hope for everyone that Civ 6 will work as good as Civ 5 does for me and not as Civ 5 has worked for some (True_Candyman isn't the only one, I've read complains before, even though I or my friends never experienced them).

They said there will be extra focus for multiplayer in Civ 6, like quick games of one hour, etc.
And I expect special multiplayer modes, like hybrid mode (simultaneous unless in a war, then it's turn-based) to be included as well.

there are simultaneous turns in civ 5 multiplayer?? if this is in Civ 6 that's a rly rly nice + ! (if it's also stable etc)

In Civ 5 there are three modes:
Turn-based mode. This takes forever in multiplayer.
Simultaneous mode. This is way better, but a war turned into a clickfest. Whoever was quickest to click was the one that attacked first.

After a while in a patch there came "hybrid mode". This was simultaneous in normal rounds, but turn-based between human players in a war.
A very smart and good working mode, in my opinion.

I expect these modes to return in Civ 6.

lol ok! fastest to click WTH.. haha

in Battle Isles, there is a moving and a shooting phase, they alternate, it's simultaneous.

anyway this is really nice, it sounds like the hybrid mode would make a really playable game :D
