Multiplayer woes -- connection never works

Hi all,

A friend and I have been trying to play SMAC together over the internet for absolutely ages. We have tried everything we can think of -- Hamachi, Wippien, and Kali -- and nothing works. Either the loads between turns are *extremely* slow and prone to dropping, or the game simply won't start to begin with.

He's using Windows Vista and I'm on XP. When we play together over regular LAN (the rare times we can see each other in person), it works fine.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on?? We both love the game and keep trying, but I think we're finally going to give it up if we can't get some help.

Thanks so much for the link to the thread. We'll give Hamachi another try sometime, and if no that, then Gameranger.

I am a little bit worried because in the thread there's no mention of the possible problem we're having (extremely slow turns), but I guess I'll just have to hope that one of the updates will fix it.
