Has there been any information on Multiplayer in Civ5? Single player civ never really interested me, but I loved the multiplayer in Civ Rev.

I heard Civ5 was going to have matchmaking, thats nice. Since its on steam will it make use of all steams features like voice chat and the friends list? Are turns going to be simultaneous? Since there is matchmaking, is their going to be preset game modes like CivRev always having 5 civilizations?

I was just about to ask if voice chat would be supported. If steam has a system for it already that looks like a good sign to me. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I'm used to playing with my friends from college in someone's dorm room, now that we're all graduated, and dispersed across the country, it's a bit less fun playing Civ IV because we have to use the text chat rather than just talking to each other. I'd really like to see voice chat as an option for Civ V.

Yes I think it is pretty safe to say that Steam chat as an overlay will be available while playing Civ5, it actually works with non-steam games like Civ4 if you start them from the steam interface.

You could just use another program for voicechat, like Skype or Mumble or something. Steam's voice quality is a little poor.

Well Civ4 had the same problem, it did have voice chat if you enabled in the ini file. But it was poor quality and created extra lag in the game.

Teamspeak became the defacto standard for voice chat with players and clans in Civ4. Though Skype has taken off as an IM, not sure if it will replace TS as the prefered voice option or not. Clan TS Servers tended to carry a mark of being excepted into the "elite circles" of the better players, in the clans. So I'm not sure if Skype rooms will develop the same social dynamics that TS Servers did before it.
