Music editor

Hi

I'd like to know what good program should i use to edit music.
I don't want anything fancy and i really don't want anything too complicated ; i simply want a program where i can
- chop parts of a song
- change the kbps
- save wav files as mp3 files
That's it.

I already have one - Sound Forge. But it's 8 years old - i'm guessing there has to be some good new software around. Now that i have a new computer i might as well find a new program to do this.

Oh, and it doesn't have to be freeware.

Do you mean just a wav/mp3 editor or a sequencer?
If you want a sequencer get Reaper...

Sound Forge is absolutely great, but I have a much newer version.

Audacity is the best free one you're going to find, IMHO.

After minor problems with Audacity i managed to work my way thorough.

If you don't know, then its probably not worth explaining... you don't need one.

Goldwave works well for me (shareware, but it only nags you occasionally if you don't register).
