Music Question

I knew it was familiar, damn that was a good movie. And I have to agree, part 2 wasn't as good as the original.

dude, you don't conduct music like this AND apply it to the apropriate movie scenes in ten days. That was quite certainly longer in the making.

However, one song could be a coincidence - one very old original tune inspiring two composers on the opposite place on the earth. But two ... or even more (Have to check the HoMM4 OST) ?

I don't think so. I really wonder how that came to happen.

Actually, the answer is that they all remixed the same original 'ancient instrument sample,' which is sold in catalogs to composers. Think of it as a musical version of a stock photograph. And most composers don't know every type of instrument like the back of their hand. So they use these samples as a template when being told to make a certain style of music with instruments they aren't familiar with. When there's a tight deadline, they customize the samples even less, resulting in songs that sound either very similar or almost identical to the original.

The song you guys are referencing was also used in the Pirates of the Caribbean as a tavern theme. It's also in Black & White 2 as well as Lineage II and Warlords Battlecry II. I'm guessing the same thing happened there. Tight deadlines. You can get the full story here.

ah, Warlords Battlecry II. what great memories. the voices of the units were great, I still remember some. personal favourite was the dark elf assassin "who will die this day?" and of course the awesome quasit "bite my tail, monkeyboy!"

Mystery solved. Good find. So, each song is a remix of a centuries old folk ditty.
