Hola people,

Whenever I play Civilization III Conquests through Steam, the music is always the same (dependent on the culture, mind). Whenever I load a savegame, the exact same tunes start playing (again, dependent on the culture), and I think that, before I played this game on Steam (a decade ago or so), there was more variety in the music, and the music pieces also changed into different pieces. Am I right? Does anyone recognise this? Or am I just misremembering?

There was a Windows 10 update that limited sound channels to two and this created some mildly serios problems with sound for Civ3 and other older Games.

Apparently there is a solution:

IndirectSound emulates audio hardware acceleration on modern Windows operating systems. This enables older games to have 3D positional audio (i.e. surround sound played out of rear and side speakers) like they were intended to when they were originally released.

First of all, thank you for confirming that I may not be imagining things. :P

However, it seems I had already used this, and Googling this, it seems that this is mostly (solely?) used to fix missing or screeching diplomacy music (mine works fine).
I took a look in my Registry to see if perhaps Civilization III required more than simply putting the dsound.dll and dsound.ini in its directory, but even if I go to C:\Windows\System32 (which is what the Registry points to, as far as I can see) and replace the dsound.dll there with the one from IndirectSound, my music remains the same.

And I am 80% sure the music used to be much more varied than what I have now, which is always the same tune on the same second without any variance.
