Must reboot for XP

I am having to reboot each time in order to play Civ3. I have installed the patch. If I run another program first, then Civ3 won't run. I am running XP and have changed the compatibility to Win 98. I have had all sorts of problems just getting Civ3 to run. When I first installed it the movie would run and after that I would get a screen that had approx 8 overlapping images like the monitor was defective. After talking to customer support we were able to the game to run but it is a royal ***** having to reboot every *%^# time to run the game!
Any help out there?

I don't have any suggestions, but I just wanted to note that I'm running XP and I don't have this problem. I don't think you need to change the compatability mode.
