Should the changes to Mutual Protection Pacts that I suggested be made in Civ4?

Sims, 1st thanks to show Port in the game :p

Now, on the real business:

I am against what you said. I even think that once a country enter in war with you, whether you respond or not, the MPPs should be activated! Otherwise, what are them for? "So, if you are being attacked, we will only defend you if you show us proof that you were not the 1st to attack"? No,if the CIV is your ally, it is your ally. Or else we could here suggest the cration of something else.
Like: a new MPP like you suggest and a Military Alliance like the one I suggested.

What about this?

During the WWII, German was allied with Italian and Japan. You see, you have to search for allies, this is the key. Maybe not that obvious ok, but relations are important in Civ3, well it seems like it anyway. (I'm not a diplomat myself)

However the bad thing in MPP is according to me the fact that it is rough, i mean it is tought to have an MPP with anybody and to be able to respect it during 20 turns... this means that you would have to end it before to end the war or you will be seen as a traitor until the end of the game or not far at this point. And what about of having to MPP only with one civ, or you will be seen as the greatest of all traitor if two of you allies fight together. Or maybe i miss something about its fonctionnement. Maybe it is a miss in the civilopedia. But it is not clear in my head.

I see it as a mutual protection pact - a defensive alliance. This is essentially what NATO is, which is why most of Europe chose not to get involved in the Iraq war. I agree we need a ful alliance level of diplomacy, but why would any human player choose to let themself get involved in any random war without any control over it?
