Oh, and here's the savegame from 1954 AD I promised to post. Just don't hold the elections and you can continue. What I forgot while playing the last turn was that I actually had the Great Leader Washington in Washington, and didn't use him to hurry SETI Program which was being built in New York, it had 9 turns left or something. So you might also want to see how that will affect your gameplay. If you don't want to read about what happened to me, scroll to the bottom.
When I wanted to see an alternate future, I decided not to hold the elections (they will hold them every 20 turns or so, btw) and continued my attack on Persia. By 1977 I had conquered all but two of their cities (and reduced Persepolis's size from 12 to just 2).
Unfortunately my people were really

weary of the war - all I got to hear was like 57 % say: "All we want is just to give peace a chance" and not to speak about the conquered cities, the other half of them were furious about my aggression on their former mother country. The Persians had been really desperate and drafted really heavily, so they also complained about that - what the heck, it wasn't ME who drafted them! (I'm becoming a hardened militarist leader)
My biggest military loss occurred when a newly conquered Persian city flipped back, causing me to lose at least 4 bombers, 1 or 2 F-15's and probably a Tank and a Mech Infantry, too. Those damn Persians probably sold them away immediately...

THEY SHOULD HAVE spared the money!
So, although the victory was just inches away, I had to make peace since a significant number of my cities were rioting and I had already raised luxuries to 30%. And since the Persians weren't nice and didn't spare the money they probably earned when they sold my units, I got a lousy 12 gold when I forced them to make peace. Actually they would have wanted to do it a lot earlier and would have given a lot more money, but I do have some principles, you know.
Anyway, in 1979 I finally achieved Domination Victory. It really hadn't been far. Building Temples to my new cities must have initiated it. Then, after the small, isolated Zulu town on our continent (don't remember its name, but it's between Doh! and Basheria) joined us, it happened. And I have to admit, it really looks kind of impressive on the map.
*** UPDATE May 21: I have now replaced the save game with a working one!!! Download The Americans from 1954 AD here!
