My first bluescreen:).

aaaah, laptop. didn't catch that. i played on my HP laptop with no issues but have one of the lap fan units. sorry i missed that detail...

Thanks all for your suggestions. I tried 1 and 2 Sorceresss. Is number 2 normally supposed to take so long? I was doing it for like an hour. Also, Exavier how did you "look at my computer (which I also forgot is for the most part stock except for a new cd drive [stock one broke in store so I got new one but it is still harman/kardon] some memory upgrades and an add on to my memory)"? Did you actually look at it (would really really like to know in this case) or look the default up on the web at Bestbuy or something (don't care as much then). Also, it is a laptop and I have no clue if the fans turn off every once in awhile. In addition, Armr your first part of your first of three post in a row sounded good but then again my laptop always heats up (but not as hot as when it crashed) whenever I play any game from minesweeper to SimCity to Civ4 so it is not as much of a concern to me. Also, if you were wondering why I left and then came back and then left again after my last post for a while I proved my absentmindedness by forgeting to copy Sorceresss' notes before I quit aol so I had to wait and get back on and go all the way here again. At least I remembered to print them before doing the check thing:lol:.

LMFAO!!! I just went to toshiba's website. You had given the name brand so I looked it up and went off the stats of the cheapest one (usually the one most ppl buy). There arn't that many things you can change on a laptop :P

Also if you want I can send you the most current drivers for that card (same ones I use for my video card). Though just so you know they arn't official drivers. I get them from someone who takes apart the most current Nvidia drivers then reconfigures them to unlock any hidden features and to make them compatable with laptop card varients. I have used them for about a year now (updating as needed) and I have to say they have done wonders for me. Though like I said they aren't official drivers so they are not signed or supported by any company if you have problems. If you want them let me know and I will see if i can get them uploaded to my website for you (55mb)...

EDIT: sent you PM with info to d/l if you want the drivers... I am gona go boot up and continue week 2 of my 4 muliplayer conquest only map :P

No thanks, but thanks for offering. Sorry, I honestly thought you were able to look into my computer:eek:. I even ran my stupid Spy Sweeper (no offense) to find you:lol:. My computer is one of the cheapest:(? The odd thing is that it cost like $3,000 or $4,000 bucks so I don't understand how it is cheap? Also, I actually was the stealthly one by after posting the last post I cruised to the main forum page to see who was on and I saw you on the list so I clicked and saw you were posting a reply starting from 5:08 and ended whenever so I could quickly post this without you logging off to answer my questions:D.

Edit: Also, now that I see your edit, how do you check to see if a friend you PMed got the message?
Editing edit: I might want it but how long does it stay there so don't delete it cuz I am thinking it over. To help settle this debate what does it do different and is it 100% safe and bug proof so it won't destroy my computer?

No & Yes : it depends on the option you chose.

No, if you only selected the little box for the error-checking of the system-files (when you right-click on the drive's icon/properties + tools).

Yes, if you also selected the lower box for a scan for bad sectors on the C: drive. This might take a long time.

Usually, the error-checking of the system-files (the first box above) is sufficient, and that really does not take a long time when you reboot.

The other option (scan for bad sectors) takes much more time, and it is really not necessary to do it more than once a month (or so).

you can check the PMs up toward the top of the page (Welcome <name>)... I sent you the info anyway lol... as for your PC if you payed that much for it you might have got a different model then what i was looking at but they are all pretty much the same exept for a few key components :P

Oh and trust me spysweeper wouldn't know if someone else was in your PC... Not that I would do anything like that

I clicked both (didn't think it would do any harm). It (hopefully) helped. Thanks.

Also, to Exavier I got it so thanks and if you would please respond once more and viewing profiles is fun:D. And didn't think it would but did it just to be safe. Also, it runs the checks but currently has some malfunction where it cannot upload new definitions (it crashes every time which is really annoying when it starts downloading and then crashes when I am posting [which it always does]).

Edit: I think it hates me:(.

hehe... I am soo gona nuke my friend. He just went offline on me. I knew there was a reason I have stocked up 100 ICBMs in this game :P

hmm i guess i post here enough i might as well create a profile :P

EDIT: lol let me take a look... my luck i screwed up putting it on that computer...

Also, I have dial-up Aol (currently[going to get cable internet soon even though I have Directv(my dad feels that is the way to go even though I feel that is dumb[I told him why are we getting cable internet when we have satellite tv {correct me if I am wrong and he is right <if you even read captions>]) {so I can do multiplayer games and XBOX360 games online <yes, I have one with two wireless controllers:D>}]) so 55mb would take years if not eons to download (it took me two hours and a half hours and ~10 billion attempts to get the patch even at two A.M. a day after it came out:eek:.) so I don't know but keep it on if you can because I might (and probably will if you answer the questions I posted earlier) get it and I will admit I have an addiction to captions which cannot be solved.

To your new edit it looks good :goodjob: and only one more post till I have a hot thread:D:. Also, I started out with a Civ2 stealthbomber on this site from the avatar selection page (thought it looked cooler than the Civ3 one).

Ok its working for me now so give it a try... and its only 28mb compressed.

Dialup... eek!!!... Actually Satillite TV/Internet uses a dialup connection whenever it needs to send data back to whoever runs it (basicly if you purchase a PPV movie or something). Cable internet is alot better... that or DSL... though you will need one of those 2 to use Xbox live :P

As for leaving the file there like i said that is my data storage server... I don't think its actually been turned off in 6 months so its not going anywhere :P

EDITT: I like the nuclear sub... silent death :P Actually i modded it into my current Civ 4 game just so i can hide my ICBMs from spys :P

I see : that is why it took so much time. No problem if you are patient.

It probably helped, and it cannot do any harm. You could run the faster error-checking (alone) about once a week.

And when you are then back on your Windows desktop, immediately save a new restore-point in the System Restore menu, giving it a name you can recognize to label it as a (relatively) safe restore-point you can fall back on. Windows usually creates such a point by itself, once a day (if the computer is open long enough) : that point can be tried, if it is closest (in time & date) to the moment where a major Windows problem occured.

When Windows XP starts acting weird, restoring the System to an earlier safe point has solved most of my Windows-related problems. I have never had to format the C: drive and reinstall everything, yet.

:woohoo:I have a hot thread!:woohoo: And it is my first thread ever to boot:D:woohoo:.

To Sorceresss I am quite patient so that helped but unfortunately my sister watching the all-day long marathon of "America's Next Top Model" on our TV did not help and neither the fact I read all my school reading books for the year (I like to get ahead) and finished all my mags did not help either. At least my dad was watching football in the other room so I could find something to do. Also, the worst thing I have ever done to a computer (I sometimes have the mechanical kiss of death) was actually cause a complete (and final) crash to desktop that was so hard on the computer it literally melted to death. I destroyed everything to the point the recycle computer people and the salvage computer companies wouldn't even touch it and all I did was beat a level on Rollercoaster Tycoon two so my parents understood and thankfully got me anyother which I also eventually broke by just loading SimCity four. My sister has it now (hehe... snicker) and every once in a while it crashes for no apparent reason. Even the thing that tells you it crashed crashes. It also is infinitely slow so my sister has to wait thirty minutes just to see the welcome screen when she turns it on. I think what happened today is the sign I think I should be moving on to a new computer:(.

To Exavier: I agree silent death is cool and I too would mod subs in that carry nukes but I am not technological enough to do that and thanks for answering that one question. All you have left to do is answer the others and I will be happy.

Lastly, darn I am chatty.

Do me a favor... after 2 pages any unanswered questions probobly got lost (I know i am having trouble seeing them). Send me a PM with them and I will see if i can answer them a little better... I am going to go have dinner be back in a few hours.

I actually modded a couple things with the game. I am not very good at it granted but I know enough. Personally i like making custom (and balanced) maps to use as multiplayer battlefields... mainly because I can be quite sadistic in resorce placement :P

AHH I found one!!! :P

Like i said i have run it for a while on my computers... The version i put up there for you is about 2 months old. For the most part its the driver designed for the FX6800 series Nvidia card (the $400+ graphics card) that has been reconfigured to work on the GO style video cards (Laptop version of Nvidia cards). Not many other changes to it unless you want to get down to overclocking the card :P

Basicly toshiba will probobly never update their driver for your card... so if you want to make full use (or as close as your card can come to it) of Directx 9c and newer technologies you need to update drivers... Thats why i tracked it down myself.

As for bug proof I haven't run into anything yet... doesn't mean its not possible but you won't know if it has problems untill its installed... if there is a problem you can go in through safe mode and rollback the driver.

Dang... Just PMed you about it. Would of been faster but my mom made me throw out some old magazines so I pick the ones I didn't want and then had to run down the magazines to the recycle bin and then run back and then search for sp mistakes in the pm and the send it and then come here to realize I was late. Well, at least I probably will post this before it reaches you.

Civ 4 only BSOD once on me, when I accidentally OCed my 2500+ to a 3200+. I was wondering if the machine would be stable if I ran it as a 3200+, so I ran prime95, with a cpu temperature monitor along side. The temperature kept climbing. Eventually it froze.
Waht you probably need is one of those laptop coolers which (hopefully) would push enough air to prevent your parts from overheating. Stress testing your system is also a good thing. I would recommend prime95 because it's sensitive and quite accurate.

Thanks. Um... would you please describe what a laptop cooler is please:confused:? It sounds cool. Is it like one of those dry ice freezed things? How long do they generally last. Also, I have a pretty cluttered desk where I place my laptop so how big is it and does it cool only the computer or the genral vicinity which would not be o.k. cuz I keep all my cds with valuable info and pics and computer games near it.

I think by cooler he means one of those Laptop trays... its basicly a tray the laptop sits on (while on desk or lap) that has extra fans built into it for cooling... I never used one but i have seen them.

Then that (no offense calyth) sounds stupid. Also, I have two two year old ragdoll cats that are quite inquisitive and I would hate to see them lose part of their nose or a nail to the fan so I think I am going to stick (so far) with Sorceresss' tips.
