Well I finally got round to playing a game and fumbled through most of it using Civ2 Strategies.

It was a Regent game with seven nations. Near the end, there were only five left and I was either in second place or third. I was leading in the building of the spaceship but if anyone attacked me, I would have been dead meat. Having lost all sources of iron and oil, I wasn't able to build anything more than musketman although I had plenty of infantry and bombers left over from earlier.

Anyway, I won by using this really stupid tactic. I paid whaterever anyone wanted to get a mutual defence pact except for the biggest baddie, Russia. Then I induced a war with the Russians by irritating them and sending spies. When the war started, all the other player declared war on the Russians, even babylonians who had only three cities left. After a few turns, there was a United nations vote and I achieved a diplomatic victory.

The Japanese, I have discovered, are a fantastic warmonger civ. Try this:

Build your core cities (I don't know what size map you play on, so I won't give you a number), connect them up, make sure you have access to horses, build a temple & barrack in each town and start building chariots. Research warrior code, bronze working, iron working... maybe alphabet or masonry... and only get horseback riding once you have 20 or so chariots. Do this with low science spending, b/c you'll need at least 400 gold to upgrade your chariots to horsemen. Also, I usually build a few verteran warriors in anticipation of getting ironworking and roading some iron... if you have iron, that is. That way, for 40gold each, you can have some vet swordsmen.

Then, pick a fight (i.e. declare war). Roll over your next door neighbor. Wipe 'em out. Then pick another fight. And so on, and so forth, until you own your own continent. Beat the last civ down to 1 city and get all their tech for peace. While you're doing this, continue building horsemen, spearmen & maybe some swordsmen. Don't worry about wonders (except if you have a good coastal city... then, take a shot at the Colossus). Any ancient wonders you build will be from Great Leaders.

Hopefully, the war will generate great leaders. Make sure you use one to build a forbidden palace. Build it far from your palace, in a central location, so there are lots of cities nearby. Now concentrate on building up your civ - no fighting for awhile. Keep those horsemen... wait for chivalry. *Poof* upgrade to Samurai. Now, if you want to, you can go bonk some more heads. Or, alternatively, you can wait. Doesn't matter, because at this point you should be winning by a healthy margin.

I do this on Monarch. It doesn't always work, but it's pretty powerful.

I am also a Singaporean Kaboyashi.

I thought u were Japanese when I saw your name.

Hmmm where is your location?

Physical location - in HK.

Civfan location - mostly in the Civ2 scenario creation and Civ2 Multiplayer forums.

General question for all -

Is it true that you can unload an army by stacking it with other units using the J command and then moving the stack. Does this mean you can change the units in your armies?

No, that's a bug. After you load up your Army, it'll stay that way, permanently. Armies are already too powerful, by themselves. ;)

I see that you're finally playing Civ3. Civ2 strats don't really work well, for Civ3. ;)

The Japanese are good for a Middle Ages blitz cos of the samurai UU. ;)

If that's your stupid tactic, I'd die to see your most brilliant strat. :) I thought it was absolutely brilliant. ;)
