Civ III is a great game!
I got it yesterday and I started a Japanese civ and it is great.
One qualm, though...

Why did they make the game so the CD has to be in the drive to play? It is tedious to have to take it out and put it in for other applications. The full install, which takes a huge 700MB, should include everything in the CD and should be fully functional without the CD in the drive.

Anybody figure out how to turn the city "area" or "border" permanently on? It's rather difficult to distinguish between cultural border and city border.

I have nearly the same problem.
In november I'll only be able to watch screenshots, read previews, interviews, etc but I will not be able to check the real game.

No entanto, todas as lojas que já entrei em contato aqui em Belo Horizonte não sabem nada sobre o jogo. Mais estranho mesmo é que a pagina da infogrames brasileira não fala nada sobre um eventual lançamento do CIV III aqui em terras tupiniquins...

Now I've been optimistic about civ3 since I first heard about it...but I can't believe those screenies, it looks so GOOD!

I'm crying with happiness at present and feel very upset that I do not yet have civ3 due to my geographical position in the UK.

Am following all this with unbounded pleasure...thanks Cornmaster for the pics and story, you have put any doubts about civ3 away.




One question for now as I want to race round the rest of the forum: is the whale and fish density as small as it looks from screenies? It certainly must be lower than in civ2!!!

Hey, Pablo, this afternoon it has been announced in infogrames representative's site (FD comunicação) that Civ3 is already in stores; tomorrow, after work i will check at r2v2, Saraiva and Cultura. Anyway, i can´t find any additional information online, i hope that the press release has some truth in it.

Well....as the war on all fronts continues....I make no significant gains, and neither does the enemies.

I patched it up with the French, and English. But the war with Germany still rages. A few of my knights have fallen to German cities, but regardless I'm holding ground and expanding to the rest of my contient...unfortunatally the Germans have brought about 10 units into my borders and are just walking around.....although we are at peace, I'm getting worried!!! Anywho.....I wish the zones of control were back. That would keep them out.

Well...I kindly asked Bizmark to get his ass off my property.

He denyed....AND declared war on me!!!

So you know what??? I killed them all...MUHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAAA!! Took out all 10 units but I lost a knight and a swordsman. Small price to pay to get that scum off my lands.

I also used Ivan the Terrible to form an army of Knights. And they have destroyed 3 units and raized a city. Once an army wins a fight your able to built a new wonder called "Heroic Epic"....adds 4 cultire points per turn.

Anyway....back to the game.

I am curious about how much naval warfare and seaborn invasions occur.

Yes the Germans are on the same contient, as are the Americans. The Greeks have 4 cities and the English have one.

I used my Galley once to take a city....but not since then....and neither have the enemies...yet.

I pre-ordered from Amazon a couple weeks ago, and I ordered some CDs with it as well. They said they would ship things as they became available, but they never shipped my CDs! Now I'm just waiting to see if it all comes together, and watching the ship date get pushed back and back. Originally they said Nov. 1, now they say Nov. 9.

Just to close this matter, Submarino is already taking pre-orders (for Nov 5), it won't take long till it get to the stores.

Resources are ok....I have 2 Iron, 2 Horses, Some spices, silk, gold, wine. When my Iron was taken by the barbs I couldn't build swordsman anymore...so I had to take it back with inferior units...but now that I've secured a few sources...I should be ok. Unfortunatally my cities aren't all connected yet...as the barbs killed some of my road build workers. Luckly when I raized that German city.....I captured two German workers.

Anywho....TF will be uploading more SSes shortly.

Have you used the privateers yet? If so, how powerful is the unit and how is it to attack without going to war? Do the oposing civs get suspicious?
