My first game of Civ 3.

WUM, from this thread i got the impression that hazing a city, even large ones, gives you a couple of workers, not the number of people in that city. Care to confirm Corn?

It could be....I never really paid attention. I just throught those units were suportted by that city and working near by and that's why I captured them.

Also, why didn't you haze heidelburg. Were you in need of the horse, assuming that the resource is a horse? The location of the city is poor.

I had planned to make that my landing point for my envasion force (I was going to ferry units over on ships and strike the Capital) but they took it back before my army could get there....so my forces raized another city instead. It was size 1 or 2 but I didn't get any workers.

Corn, I just noticed your location is Fort Pierce, Florida. That's ironic. I spent my teenage years in Port St. Lucie and attended Ft. Pierce Central High. It's a small world! anyway, back to Civ3.....

Finally caught up with the end of this thread. Corn and TF, THANKS for all the great details about Corn's first game. It has been great to read through and see all the screen shots. Of course, it just makes me sadder that my computer won't run Civ III, so my wait is indefinite  I'm getting more bummed all the time :(

Well....I'm back. And with some interesting AI news.

Now maybe this was just a conidence but the French and the Germans had an alliance against me. That's fine. But we are at peace (The Germans I mean)

So the French drop a swordsman next to "Iron Curtin" One of my Iron Cities. Well...I mistook the Pink for English (Which I'm friendly to.) Well...opps, they took over my city!!! and took away my source of Iron (one of them)

The Germans on the other end of my empire had 6 archers sitting on my horse's and roads that connects West and East CornEmpire together. Well...THEY PILLAGED ALL THE ROADS!!! So I lost one of my horse resources too!!! Then obviously declared war on me.

Well...I was following them around with a few knights to make sure they didn't try anything funny. Well...they did!! So I picked one off but not before 4 of them attacked "West Side Hills" Luckly my pikeman and spearman were able to hold them off....just barely though....

So...I took over German "Stugart" a while ago as a cushin between my captial and them. And that's where I stationed my army (Which kicks major ass, by the way.)

I also built a fortress with a catapult and knight stationed there.

Anyway....I'm just currious if the AI will pull off more percision strikes like it did against me...or if that was just a fluke. :(

I managed to repel them again...for the third time. But man...when they attack...they come in swarms!!!! Also anoter note......ships can not defend cities at all....they just crumble.

Back to the game.

Well, Cornmaster?!? I need my fix! :smoke:

And I know there wasn't any good Trek on last night, so you can't use that as an excuse (TNN's just got to Season 2...soon they will be in Season 3 and TNG will be worth watching every night...) :mutant:

Did you roll the Greeks yet? More screenshots!

:tank:

I'm a demanding little bugger, ain't I?
[dance]

Well....here is a zip file containing 4 or 5 more screenshots.

TF seems less interested since he got his own copy of Civ 3. ;) And I have no where I can upload them.....well.....here they are.

Civ's will still try and enter your borders to build a city......I had to chase down a Hopitle and a Settler....damn bastards. But unfortunatally I can't make a dent into Greek Cities :( The Hopitle is very strong when fortified in a city....but I am about to move an army against the Germans....Could be some fireworks. ;)

Well....it won't let me upload them..it's too big. I'll e-mail them to TF...I'm sure he will upload for me.

Not true! ;) You can upload them yourself to the forum. I've increased the attachment size limit to 500 KB. You should zip them up first so they don't make the page too long to load...

I picked up my LE last night. Played til 3 am. *yawn* Made for a long day at work.:D

I have found the computer to be unable to handle it very well, even though I have double the specified requirements. Has anyone had this happen?

It makes for a slow and sluggish time of it. It doesnt flow like civ2. Clicking on cities or units takes a few seconds to react.

Any comments about that?

Regardless, I enjoyed it very much. Slow or not, I will continue my first game (Go Bismark!) until the end.

Good luck, Corn!:goodjob:

Wow ! What a difference to the usual Civ2 AI stupidities - I'm playing 'ZWK' (again) and the Russians keep sending lone soldiers towards to my fortified :king: King Tiger's :D in the forests south of Moscow... what a gift ! :slay:

I can't wait for better AI tactics :ninja: in Civ3...

Keep posting Cornmaster.. ! :goodjob: This goes a long way to making-up for my wait until March 2002, as an  impoverished Mac user !

P.S. When do we get more piccies ?

I've played a number of games now, 1 on chieftan and several on warlord. I went with the Greeks each time, figuring the combo of commercial/scientific worked best for my play style (largely peaceful, expand as much as I can... assimilate through culture and conquer only if I need a special resource someone else has).

My latest game went very well, as I started on a large continent and, for the 1st time, started an early war (w/the Egyptians).

The setup went like this: I started in the SE corner, the French in the South, the Romans in the West, the Egyptians in the NW. The Germans, English, Indians and Chinese were overseas.

In any event, the Egyptians built a city with 6 spices in its radius... SIX! Well, I just had to have it. I continued on to take Thebes and a couple of other cities and then stopped. Using archers and hoplites was effective and I got swordsmen part way through the campaign, which also helped. I built the Forbidden Palace (best minor wonder, bar none) in Thebes, which took FOREVER, since thebes lost nearly all its production to waste. Once complete, however, and combined w/democracy, corruption went from crippling to minor annoyance (this may also have been attributable to the fact that I had TONS of luxury resources and nearly all of my people were happy).

I assimilated a couple of French cities near my capital, which was nice, and concentrated on tech and wonders for a while... I built the G.Library, Hanging Gardens, Cop's Observatory, Sistine Chapel... you get the idea. The Romans, with whom I had enjoyed good relations, up and declared war on me for no reason (they didn't even demand anything). It was touch and go briefly as they hit a relatively weak section of my empire with two large stacks of pikeman/knights, but I held on. My new musketmen helped greatly :) I then counter-attacked w/Knights and such and took a city before they asked for peace.

Later on, having discovered Steam Power, I noticed that the only Coal resources on my continent were within Roman territory - near Rome, actually. Thought process:

I need coal to build railroads
I have no coal.
The Romans have coal.
The Romans are weak, and have messed with me before.
The Romans must die.

I love the fact that wars now have a purpose! In any event, the Romans did die, and I built my railroads. After that, I was all set... I built up my cities, survived some minor global warming (which seems to occur 1 square at a time) until I got to egology and recycling, and discovered that I had all of the other resources I need. The only worry was that I only have one oil resource... but there are others I could easily acquire with my Modern Armor/Radar Artillery/Stealth Bombers/Mech Inf/Battleships&Destroyers. *GRIN* I am presently building spaceship parts.

I am pondering playing either a Commercial/Religious or Religious/Scientific civ next... or possibly sticking w/the Greeks.

p.s. One annoying thing did happen... I built the UN. Once built, it asked me if I wanted to hold a council vote. I said "sure."

The Egyptians have voted for Queen Elizabeth of the Engish
The French have voted for Queen Elizabeth of the English
The Germans (who were AT WAR w/the English) have voted for Q.E. of the English
The Indians have voted for Q.E. of the English
The Chinese have voted for Q.E. of the English.

YOU LOSE. Luckily , I had just saved the game the turn before.

was this game on the easiest level?

and what happened with the UN???
i mean, YOU build it, don´t you vote???

Why didn´t you vote for someone else, or when you have to vote first: why not vote for yourself, so no other civ can win that way?
