It gets about 10 files into the install then crashes, if I try to cancel my comp resets... also the DX9 file doesn't install either. It just freezes my comp when I try to. It isn't a faulty disk because I've returned it once already, and it isn't pirated, so what's the problem? Any ideas?

(My specs are way above rec. and other things install fine)

just curious, whats your specs?

have you installed the latest version of the video drivers? though, some have said that older version of their nvidia drivers work better than the newest, but it's a good place to start.

My specs are

P4 2.5ghz
1024 mb ram
Geforce 4 5700 Ultra 128 (latest drivers)

anyone at all? One other person on this forum had the same problem, chester something or another, so I know it isn't just me.

Mine was doing this for a while. I deleted the civ folder it created under Firaxis Games and the civ folder in My Documents, then reinstalled it again.

anyone able to help me?

Have you tried:

Please restart your computer using a clean boot procedure by following these steps:

NOTE: You may experience a temporary loss of some services functionality when you follow these steps. Restoring the settings restores the functionality, but may result in the return of the original error message or behavior.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.
3. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
4. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the following check boxes:
-Process SYSTEM.INI File
-Process WIN.INI File
-Load Startup Items
5. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
6. Click OK, and then click Restart.
7. Once your computer restarts and the notification window for the System Configuration appears, place a checkmark in the box to hide the window from future sessions and click the OK button.

Attempt to launch the game after this.

NOTE: You may run the msconfig utility again and select Normal Startup to return your computer to its previous configuration.

Don't run stuff in the background if you are having trouble installing.
