My GFC error

I have a problem.
Yesterday afternoon I installed Civ4 Beyond the Sword (Bought the actual product, not a Direct2Drive thing.)
So I played it as Charlemagne for about an hour, saved, closed it out.
Then last night when I went to play it I kept getting some GFC error. This occured before the game started between the init steps and the main screen.

And after that I have a init failure, saying Failure to Load Shader Libraries or something of that nature.

I downloaded Direct X 10 (or so I think) last night.
However it says I have Direct X version 9.0c.

Maybe I need to download some patch?
Or re-install.
I'm not sure, but I'm quite frustrated.

Direct X 10 does not install on Windows XP

please open my games\beyond the sword\civilizationIV.ini
change all items with log in their name to 1
start a game when this error occurs exit the game any way possible and post the contents of my games\beyond the sword\logs as a zip file here.
Also click start, click run, type dxdiag, click save results and post those results here as well. You can post attachments by clicking go advanced and then manage attachments below the reply box.

I've been a fan since someone brought Civ 3 into school.
And I'm hoping that BtS will be as enjoyable as Warlords.

the log you posted is for Civ4 (not BtS) - but it bothers me that this is version 1.61 - BtS should patch it to 1.74 when installing, so i assume something is fishy with your BtS install. Do you have logs for BtS?

Also your graphics card Intel 82865G does not support hardware T&L which might be a deal breaker - but since it worked before it might be salvageable. Did BtS ever work?

I guess if I don't have 1.74 I should find the patch. Know where I can find it? Or perhaps I should uninstall and try it again.
As far as the logs go- I know what my computer is doing 70% of the time, but with logs I have no idea, so I don't touch them. And the file that I attached was from the Beyond the Sword folder so it should be correct but I dont know.

Hmmm... BtS did work. Not sure how but, I played it right after installation and it was fine. Things were a bit fast (clicking on a leader brought them right up, rather than after 5 seconds like Warlords did). But it worked fine.

Now when you say salvageable do you mean that it can still work.
Or can I download something?

This whole issue is using every ounce of my technical savviness and technological patience.

Normally with a card that does not have hardware T&L support I'd say it cannot work. However since it worked for you before this statement would not be true.
You could try installing 1.74 manually - you can find it on the main page of this site - left panel has a link to updates and patches.

You do not get into the main menu right? I'd still like to figure out what BtS version this is - did you ever apply any patches?

I have not done anything regarding patches to BtS.
However I reckon I'll go an get 1.74
The only recent event that can possibly distinguish me from other civ 4 BtS player is that recently I had an out-of-the-blue problem with warlords.
It was like dll_DX32 error
So i had to go to microsoft and download something else.
And nay I don't get to the main menu, get close (about 75% complete).


I'll get the patch and tell you if anything changes.

the dx error was caused by BtS applying the 2.13 patch to warlords -it should have installed the 1.74 patch to Civ4 and a current DirectX version as well but apparently did not during install

the GFC is the HUD, interface in game.

I know this because I mod it.

Just reinstall the game.

I tried to d-load it and it said I already have it.

Here's a question for ya
How do I uninstall it?
I went like this
start>control panel> add or remove programs> beyond the sword
I clicked remove and installshield wizard comes up.
And it asks if I want to install it.
I did and nothing changed, it still isn't working.
So I deleted it.
And now I'm wondering

1) Was that a bad idea?
2) What disc do I put it?
3) Is it uninstalled?
