Regent
Well , following some advice I tried a game using the Gl, although at the choke point of choosing Gl or Pyramids I saved and played both games that resulted in very interesting results (at least for me.)
For the record I am not a great player, having so far never beat the diety level. And Iam not going to milk the game so as to get more clear results.
MAP:standard, pangea, 5 comps, wet, 4 billion, warm, Egyptians all win types except for Domination(running PTW)
I - My common gameplan
My Goal is to run for a conqest victory sometime in the middle ages so as to have a more clear vision as to which way is more effective, During the game I'll limit myself to 2 wonders.
II - The GL game
As soon as i got Got the GL I shut down my science research only keeping 10% of Luxury to keep my servants happy. My net income was 29 gpt. I kept on building settlers occupying some 30% of the territory. During the whole process I kept about 4-5 cities on horseman production and one city on a slow prebuild towards a key wonder for my gameplan Sun Tzu's. The science rate of the AI was HORRIBLE. It took ages to get all the techs till Republic, my first turning point. With Republic, I got a great leap forward massive gpt(netting at over 300gpt which would later go up to 800) but had to raise my luxury. So far so good. my military was far superior to that of the AI as i was running a horseman <> spearman chain. Turning point 2: at the beginning of the Mid. Ages, after the acquiring of feudalism, I got sun tzu's and disconnected my iron resource, periodically connecting it and mass upgrading my horse to kngihts and spear to pike, Also i sped up production of my mil. by hurrying most of my units.. I then mass-attacked my two nearest neighbour(Persia, Greece) and conquered their land building temples on my way. Then after a short pause of rearming my forces and transporting them to the war, i finished off my 3 remaining opponents and exited with a score of 1733.
III-My science game
At the choke point i took Pyramides so instead of building granaries as happened in my GL case i was building Libraries, horse and spear, using my Lux slider instead of the subsequent cathedrals: first of all the tech pace I had was far superior, I soon outstripped every AI by one tech level, keeping them at that distance for the rest of the game and second, I had less gold but was doing some tech brokering and was keeping up fairly well in monetary means, I chose Sun Tzu's here to cuz the bonuses it offers surpasses any other wonder (IMHO) So ya...blah..blah..blah, I'm at feudalism.=> Sun Tzu's and Chivalry. My armies ready, Again I Invade and this time it takes much longer (about 15-30 turns longer) cuz of my somewhat slower upgrade rate(remember my main source of cash was the AI's Gpt.) I finall exit with a score of 2124.
As you can obivusly see my score is much better in the latter case, and my overall power throughout the game was much higher, Also i tried some more variations dragging the game to mid ind. ages trying to see the split betweenmy Gl and science game, and in every game the latter was neatly ahead averaging about 70 points of separation every so much years.
My conclusion: for a simpler but less paying off game shoot for GL, for a more tense game shoot for science,
Any comments would be greatly appreciated
