May I know, what do you mean by "Earth map with space victory switched off"
a) Do you win with a "Conquest victory"?
b) How big is your "Earth map", it is a HUGE map equivalent?
c) If your answer to a) and b) are YES, then when you win how many cities do you have (those you built + those you have conquested)
d) Do you MOD CIV4 in any area or use the builder to change settings in order to win?
That sounds very, very difficult. In the modern ages most civs become very well defended and moving your troops and armour through their territory becomes very hazardous. Hats off to anyone who can pull off the above.
i played not so long ago a pair of games on earth huge map with 12 civilizations [epic speed] and win one by culture and the other by domination. It´s not hard at all, at least for me is one of the easier settings.
Bad thisg is that i feel that i´m cheating because i know there´s a new world and the ai does not, so while i sail to conquer a continent as big as the old one so full of preconstructed cities and resources the ai might be fighting a war to catch a small spot of the old land. AI should have an extra enfasis in exploring in this kind of map.
I´d like to say that it was in this map when i discovered the secret magallanes trip bonus [the fist one in navigating around the world gets a +1 ship movement benefit] This is very important as sea distances are HUGE as themap so you might have a 4-5 turns travel with a galleon from one contienent to the other [magallanes reduces this one turn the least]
lol yes i win, no i didn´t mod, i do not remember how many cities i have but more than 20, i did destroy a civilization, the rusians but nothing more. The game was huge earth as such no mods or special maps ???
It is interessting. In my games it has also seemed epic levels on large or huge worlds favor the AI more.
And winning with conquest in general is quite hard. Since you cannot keep the cities you need to raze the excess ones and then retake the new cities the AI spawns on the terrain.
i do not find dificulties in keeping a lot of cities in huge maps... maintenance is lowered, but a lot means 20-30 as much and i used state proprety wich reduces the impact of the new world cities a lot.
Sure (on Noble), turning off Space Victory means that you will have enough time in the end to do the deed. With Space Victory on I doubt that I could do it. The AI doesn't effectively gang up to stop you, so you can roll over one after another if you ever get strong enough to take out the strongest opponent (not that this is the order you should do it in).
The cities are a bit weaker on defense in the late game. Stealth Bombers can pretty much nerf the defenders and MAs can roll on in. I usually try to keep them all, but if your economy can't take it you can always raze a few (I prefer not using State Property, but beyond a certain size it should be seriously considered). If you don't care about rep and Global Warming, you always use a few Nukes to speed things along. They aren't planetbusters but a few liberally placed can ruin an opponents day.
BTW, the Earth map mentioned earlier is bigger than Huge.

I assume you mean: by having the Space Victory turned OFF (leaving all other victory condition still ON), you did play a SINGLE PLAYER and EPIC game and did win a CONQUEST victory on a HUGE map at NOBLE difficulty level.
a) How did you avoiod winning with DOMINANT victory?
b) How many cities did you have when you win?
I did a conquest on noble on a terra map today by about 1780 today. I was the romans and conveniently had iron popup next to my second city. I pumped out praetorians and made a beeline for construction for those lovely catapults. My main tactic was to attack the person with the highest score. I held onto the first 10 or so cities i captured, but after that i had to restrict myself to only taking the capitals/holycities and razing the rest. I even razed the islam holy city as it was the only islam city on the map and it would've just been a drain.
By nailing the leading player you keep the tech race slow. The french were the last to go under and they were still running around with longbowmen and galleys. no one made it to the new world heehee
hclass, you can avoid domination wins be razing the cities you capture, and crushing the enemy before all the land gets discovered. the longer you take the more likely your civ will grow to take up the target landmass and population figures.

I couldn't get what you are trying to tell me with all your previous posts (including this one)...
May be my thread starting post have made the question too lengthy to remember or complex to understand, please allow me to make it a better way in asking:
a) HUGE map
b) EPIC mode
c) Single user against 1 or more AI opponents
d) NOBLE or higher difficulty
e) No MOD
f) Not using city builder to alter the game in any way
*g) Allow "permanent alliances"
*f) Allow only CONQUEST victory and turn off all other victory conditions
* means you can have that option ON/OFF, ALLOW or DISALLOW as you prefer.
Is there any one who have won a Civ4 game with CONQUEST victory which fulfills all the a) to f)?
So zafyro, did you remember one of your CONQUEST winning game meets all the a) to f)?

I understand through past discussion (even before Civ4 is released) the razing matter wrt domination win. And so I understand how much higher a barrier if domination victory is turned ON.
Let say we have it OFF:
Did anyone win a conquest victory based on the start up combination I have mentioned?
