AfterWW2-Global Devastation
Many people hoped it would never come to this. Almost 1/2 of the total landmass on Earth destroyed.
In late December{from the 26th until the 31st} 1957, the world was horribly devastated by nuclear Armageddon. Every single continent on Earth, save Antartica, was severely affected.
Out of the world's 9.3 billion inhabitants, 4.2 billion were killed.
And then on July 24, 1959, the global economy completely collapsed, throwing many countries back to pre-WW1 era living conditions{save for the U.S. and Australia, which only got set back to the 1930s and 1920s respectively}. and further complicating the future of civilization.
It is now 1966, and 7 distinct civs have risen above all the others.
NATO{North American Treaty Organization}
Leader-Estelle Jimenez, a former Democratic senator from Los Angeles{born 5/24/1930}
History-Having seen the destruction of much of northern Canada and most of the state of Washington, U.S. president Dwight Eisenhower decided to gather the leaders of both Mexico and Canada and sign a permanent alliance treaty.
After JFK's assassination in 1963, and LBJ's resignation in October 1965, Estelle Jimenez of the Catholic Reform Party won by a huge landslide over Richard Nixon as President of the United States.
Now she has a chance to set her nation, and everyone else in North America, on the right track. But can she do it?
Tactics-The N. Americans tend to be more passive than aggressive, and are perfectly content with the cities they have.
They might occasionally invade an enemy city, but only use nuclear missiles if they are attacked first.
South Americans
Leader-Angelina Santos, the only child of an Argentinian race car driver amd a Brazilian actress
History-1958 was a hard year of grim reality for many South Americans. With much of Brazil{and most of Paraguay and Peru} now underwater, it looked like the end of all civilization on this continent.
And the 1959 recession only made it worse; most money was now worthless, food was becoming more and more rationed, and even luxuries like televisions and radios were randomly given out.
And even worse was the constant rioting that took place in many of the largest cities where poverty was at its worst.
In August 1964, Santos took her place as head of the S. American Commonwealth, and began to make political and social reforms, to the delight of the Vatican and the common people alike.
Australians
Leader-Patricia O'Connor, a former actress and CEO of a large Sydney-based banking company.
History-Australia had always been the #1 nation in the Southern Hemisphere.
But now, with the reality of radiation poisoning and abandoned towns, many Aussies looked to their government for help.
But when Prime Minister Robert Menzies failed to deliver on his promises, they turned to Patricia O'Connor instead.
After she was elected as Australia's first president in February 1966, she began to rebuild the economy, and she soon gained support of the people and even some of her fellow politicians.
Tactics- They can be a bit aggressive at times, but they're not too bad about backing away from hopeless battles.
Japanese
Leader-Charlotte Morokari
History-Japan recovered rather quickly after American hostility ended in 1945.
The economy was booming again, people were content with the government again, and the U.S. even wanted to help them out with rebuilding their cities.
Sadly, it wasn't to last.
It was rather ironic that even though not a single bomb landed in any part of their territory, the recession of '59 destroyed all hopes of a world-class economy, throwing them back to the year 1918 in terms of technology and living conditions, with the average lifespan dropping from 68 years to just 47{55 for women}.
In 1963, the Japanese people welcomed their first female prime minister.
Now she is faced with rebuilding a destroyed economy and pleasing a crushed people.
Soviet Union
Leader-Anatoly Kasparov
History- After Germany was defeated in 1945, the Soviets decided they would rather join the Axis than stay with the Allies.
In 1953, Nikita Khrushchev issued a stern warning to the Untied States to either pull out of Eastern Europe, or they would, and I quote, 'bomb New York back to the stone age'.
In July 1956, the aeronautics arm of the KGB began testing hydrogen fusion bombs in the northern Arctic Ocean region, and then in April 1957, landed one 75 miles off the coast of Cuba.
A horrified Eisenhower pleaded with them not to launch any more nukes, but Khrushchev laughed him off, and continued the testing.
In November 1957, a renegade KGB officer was spotted tampering with the nuclear defense system in Yakutsk. He was not punished.
Finally, on Christmas Day, the KGB had gotten word that their top general, Vassily Kumanov, had overridden the security codes on their nuclear silo grid, but alas, it was just too late{And where was Nikita? Dozing off in f***ing Athens, that's where}.
The next day, their nukes landed in Africa, South America, Australia, and even northern Canada and the U.S. state of Washington.
The U.S. missile system had been screwed up by very severe weather in D.C., so contrary to what Eisenhower wanted, they launched anyway, and devastated eastern China, most of Eastern Europe{save Poland and the Ukraine}, and certainly the Soviet Union, leaving only St. Petersburg, Helsinki{Scandinavia was a close ally of Russia at the time} Stockholm, Vladivostok, Kazakhstan, a small chunk of the Turkmen S.S.R., and the small Siberian town of Anadyr.
After that, the U.S. and Russia backed off of each other, for a while at least.
