Still in the top 200!!
I did three threads in OT called "I want to learn about America" 1, 2 and 3 and noticed today they have been changed to reflect the aspect of America under discussion.

Is there any reason for this?

Since a mod has not replied yet, let me venture an opinion. The Site Rules say to "Use descriptive subject lines". If I want to post a reply to, say, your television question, I would have to search to find which thread it was in. This way, I can tell from the thread name.

Oh, well I've changed the names from now on anyway. Have you seen the alcohol one yet? I think the next one might be on the police, we'll see.

Topics like "I want to learn more about..." They seem to be a bit pointless and spammy.

Nah, you're not reading them right! I always explain at the beginning that they're NOT spammy - specifically because I thought people might get that impression

The general idea behind them is to find out about America by asking actual Americans about stuff in their country - I have NEVER made any sarcastic or "spam" style comments in those threads - go back and read them again and you will see!

All the stuff at the beginning is what I have been told by other people or the TV (either news or through watching American shows) - it's there as a starting point for a debate on the topic chosen.

Sure, you may say I'm playing devils advocate but the thread wouldn't get anywhere if I just said "hey Americans tell me about your TV/Welfare system/whatever" - if there is something for people to respond to I'm more likely to get their views or share their knowledge. Also, they get to see how outsiders view their country (if they give a toss about that).

I have read them... They have a point but you seem to have made alot of them so from the OT page, they look spammy.

"They have a point but you seem to have made alot of them so from the OT page, they look spammy"

Not sure I follow you - are you saying everything I post in OT is spam?

No I would never say that. I mean tat since there have been loads of similar threads, they look similar and so they look like spam. Its like if you have just one thread then it looks like a serious discussion but with several threads on a similar theme, its likely there will be a lot of repetitions which leads to spam.

Oh, well in fact I posted most of those threads myself. Richard III did one about british food and plomeros did a piss-take of my one about alcohol - otherwise I dont think there are any others (yet) - I just put one up about American police. All of mine are serious, though.

Considering the amount of words that Rodgers uses in his "learn about America" threads, I wouldn't call them spammy. It's not that kind of stuff you create in a few seconds.

I thought about that but then some topics migh appeal to some rather than others so they may not bother scrolling through loads of stuff about (say) TV to find the bit about (say) welfare.

Maybe I'll do them a bit less often so there isn't so many on yhe board at once

Glad you realise it's not spam :goodjob:

Rogers? Spam? Never!
Well, if people are learning things, how is that spam?

I actually like his threads...

But Spy has a point about several of them at once being up at the top... Makes it look like he's blasting the forums...

BUT, I like that they are seperated by topic... Makes them easier to go through.

Well I'll probably leave it for a day or two then.

The problem is that I think a thread has died and so move on to another topic - then people post new answers on the old threads and bring them back again. Sometimes those answers raise new aspects I hadn't thought of so you get the new thread and one (or more) old threads going at once - not intended! :)

I like the threads. I like that they are seperated. If they weren't they would be confusing jumbles. Each one has 4-6 points that need covered on a topic. Combine them and you would have 20-30 points being discussed in one thread. Even the ME threads can't get to that level. ;)
