My unit is going where?

I'd love to see a feature added that tells me where I've told my units to go - Sending three settlers to one site is something I'd like to avoid. Maybe, after Map Making a little flag can go up (blue for settlers, red for military?) in the square where I've sent them.

This would be best implemented through selecting the unit that you wish to see where its moving. At the same time it would ask you whether you wanted to continue moving on this path so its still possible to activite units. Using flags for all units would get confusing as it wouldn't show where each unit was moving and how many units were moving to a particular position.

I like your idea better, D19, but Ryth's might be good for the 'big picture'. You already know a unit is going that way, so you don't have to worry about sending one there.

Actually, I think a combination of the both would be best.

It could even be possible to allow the user to have the choice of which method they prefer... Btw is my name really that long that you have to shorten it, T727?

Just lazy. ;) D-E-L-L-N-I-N-E-T-E-E-N.

I'm thinking more along the lines that you could have the flags on the tile that's marked for go-to, and still be able to click on that unit and see what you're were seeing.

Okay but I still feel that flags should be optional as I feel that they would look messy especially with automated workers where there could be flags all over your territory. It would still be useful to see where the workers are going but messy as well...

I hadn't even thought about workers, it was mostly the settlers that annoyed me. But I spose a switchable option like the grid squares could be workable.

The game Warlords II had this feature and it helped a lot. Warlords II had a combat system not all that unlike Civ, except that up to 8 units would fight at a time, but each unit went up in its turn. The unit, when it came up for movement, would show a shadow of where it was going (including the entire path). I agree, though, that there should be a toggle for not asking if you want to delay the moves.

Personally, I would always just keep hitting ok (move along) so long as I wanted the move, since I like to watch my animation moves.

Moving units manually is fine during the early stages and moving military units manually is probably advisable, but moving workers over long distances would become tedious...

How about a relatively simple system, which combines many of the previous ideas? Normally, everything works without any movement indicators (as things are now).

You can press a button to show all the little flags of unit destinations (like Ryth's suggestion). Letting go of the button makes the flags disappear again - this way, it's very easy to check all unit destinations and avoid sending two settlers to the same spot.

Additionally, if you want to see the path of just one unit, either a right-click option or an action like CTRL+clicking (just an idea) on it will show its path (a line similar to the one you see when you move a unit by clicking and holding on a square to order a unit to move there). This will allow you to quickly answer the question "where is that worker going?".

Plus, the "normal" map remains uncluttered, and the movement system is unaffected...
