Let's say I've given a unit orders to go to a certain spot, and on the way it just waltzes on by an enemy unit. Is there a way to set it to stop when an enemy unit is sited?

You mean like a barbarian? Well once the enemy can see you he's going to go right for you so umm....uhhh....ave after ever turn? But seriously there's not much you can do, I can't tell you how many settlers I'v lost from barbarians that just kinda pop up right in front of me

Go to the preferences screen, and go to the "Cancel Orders next to Enemy" and check it.

I already have that checked. It doesn't seem to be working. Possible bug? I have the latest patch.

i agree - frustrating- they should stop as soon as they see enemy units, not just wait and not do anything at the start of the next turn
