Hi,

I've been playing around with adding techs to the tech tree. Mainly these are unique techs which are only available to the relevant civilisation. Each time I added a tech I would test the game to see if everything was ok.

After a while of doing this successfully Mining started coming up as already researched for all civilisations regardless of if I had changed anything for that civ or not.

I moved CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml and CIV4TechInfos.xml over to custom assists and disabled all mods and the problem disappeared. I have also been playing around with a few of the other xml files and have used TheLopez's Great Doctor Mod as the starting point.

So my question is what other files determine which techs a civ starts with that I might have stuffed up? I have searched through all the modifications I have made and can’t see anything.

Any help with this puzzling problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like it may be in Civ4HandicapInfos.xml (deciding what techs the player starts with for free on the different difficulty levels).

Also, are you giving these techs a location on the tech tree, or setting them to x=-1,y=-1?

I had a lot of trouble with free techs myself when I tried to hide the tech I wanted to give away.

Hi,

Thanks Kael. It was the handicap. I had dropped the difficulty down to Settler to play test some things. Didn't even know that you got free techs on the lower dificulty level! Mustve reset itself back to Noble after unloading the mod.

Andrew_Jay - the techs ive put in are in the Tech tree but are disabled from being researched by all civs and are given to the relevent civ as a free tech.

Again thanks for the help.
