I know this is going to sound a bit odd but I have found that my best games happen when I begin with a more Northerly position. This has happened often enough fro me to notice it.

I'm just wondering if others have seen this effect from the location - compass direction- of your starts?

I'm not saying that I haven't had winning games with other starts but just that the largest portion of them are based in the North of my continent.

I can recall games where I started north and it ended up very well, so I'd love to agree, but then I think about other games started in other locations that ended up ok too.

It could be that far north (or south) locations put you at the edge of a continent, putting you in position not to get dog piled and to pick your conquests 1 by 1. It reduces your contacts but a curragh or 2 can fix that.
