Naeralith Reborn: New design thread

UPDATES 13/02/2010

Added high level design for the remainder of the tech tree plus an visual representation of this design (see attachments in post #1).

The details of the techs will come soon so I can expand the four presently designed civs to the end of the tech tree and begin to add in the others :)

Enjoy :)

wow, HUGE tech tree. it looks pretty good dispite its immenseness (its almost twice the size of BTS's tech tree)

id suggest merging perspective and fine art with aesthetics and make it require both sculpture and architecture...possibly also drama or music.

Regarding the education techs... i think anatomy is also pointless and should be merged with medicine. id also suggest getting rid of algebra.

id remove botany. it seems like useless clutter.

id also make medicine require sanitation and have battlefield medicine require medicine

you could combine infrastructure and city planning... they seem quite similar

I dont think alchemy should require machinery. it SHOULD require glass blowing though.

i think paper and literacy are too far apart from each other... logically paper should have been developed relatively soon after writing.
i would make naturopathy lead to paper, which leads to education, and have paper require literature, trade and/or music. id then move cartography to after education.

usury seems like a pointless technology... a tech dedicated to interest and loan sharks? just merge it with taxation and banking.

constructs sounds a little too similar to construction... id call it magical constructs to help differentiate them.

i admit i do not quite follow what you have in mind for the magic techs... i dont understand why alchemy, divination and white magic are further in the tech tree than battlemagic necromancy etc. im sure you have a reason for this though.

----------------

thats all for now. im sure ill think of something more later :)

Woot great suggestions. Need to curb the tech tree anyways in some areas. Will post soon with a proper response :)

WOW! Epic news:

http://civilization5.com/

Looks like we have a new version coming out :D

Guess my intentions are to complete the design here then rework it when civ 5 comes out :)

I will have to see when the time comes if the upgrade will be worth it. Knowing the civ series however, Im damn sure that it will lol :D

Just as a reminder, carrying the Philosopher's stone should maximize all spells used, and provide Immortality to the Caster.

as far as maximizing spells, if they have a range of X% damage to Y% damage, where Y is the max, the spell does Y damage. Furthermore, it occurs twice (as if two people casted it) ... and summons will be stronger (probably combat 1-5) ... and probably ALL summons will become permanent (if possible). Also, potentially it would be better for all spells to turn into STRONGER versions of what they otherwise would be. AKA summon skeleton turns into summon spectre, summon spectre turns into summon Wraith, and summon Wraith turns into Summon Ira (or 2 Iras). Summon Fireball would turn into Summon Meteor, and Summon Fire-Elemental would turn into summon Fire-Demon (or something ... Seraph? Brigit? Balor?).

I see you remembered the Philosopher's Stone from the old thread :D

Might rename it :) Cool ideas though. It would be a spellcasting dream to possess it. Immortality works well too! The more powerful versions of spells would be interesting. Would require double the amount of spells though which might be a fair bit of work. I'll have to see how powerful civ 5 is tho lol :)

I'm getting more and more excited about this new version of civ! :D

Some of the features look really fun to work with.

Although I'll have to incorperate religions into civs I still think that it will be an exciting time to mod... in the wake of a new civ release :)

I should open a thread somewhere else to link back to here... though Im not sure where lol :)

wow i just found this thread from pure luck, the www.naeralith.com website looks fantastic and i love the concept behind everything so far. Alzara, id be really really interested in helping you mod Naeralith into Civ 5 :)

special terrain for Fae

elder faewood- 2 food, 2 happy, 2 science

Hey Changer :)

You are more than welcome to help out! I would really appreciate it :)
This thread has been v quiet recently... not surprising since I have decided to put it on hold till civ 5... which should be right around the corner :D

I've been doing bits and bobs of writing while I wait (including some novelisation :)).
Feel free to post any ideas you have.
I imagine I will have to start YET ANOTHER thread when civ 5 comes out :D

Tis exciting though ;)
