Naeralith Reborn: New design thread

UPDATES 22/12/2009

Got a little side tracked adding in completely new resources representing Naeralith's unique ecology :)

These have also been tied in with any present entries for buildings, units etc. Once my website is up and running, there will be lore and information relating to these resources that might bring more sense to the names ;)

For now I also have a list under the "Traits, Resources and Improvements" section.

Have fun reading (and possibly being confused) LOL :)

UPDATES 24/12/2009

Added some civics and religious stuff to tidy up a little before Christmas.

Will be away for a few days now (for obvious festive reasons) :)

Updates will come soon though in the form of completing the wonders for tier 4 and tidying up the religions!

Merry Christmas everybody!!! :D

UPDATES 27/12/2009

Finished tier 4 (units civics etc) and updated Scarthia all the way to tier 4.

Also added in some teasers as to the magic design. Yes magic on Naeralith is based around colour. Terrain can also become "Colourless". More on this mechanic soon ;)

I'm going to focus first on putting some stuff in for religions, and integrating some of the nice suggestions given on the second page by the Llama :)

Also, I'm going to add in at least some civilisations up to tier 4 before I move on to part 2 of the tech tree :)

Hope you all had a nice Christmas!

Updates will begin again soon now that the holidays are over :)

I have a little project to complete this week, but will begin to work more on the mod after the weekend :)

So stay tuned :D

the web site is absolutely fantastic :) im loving your writing style and the background so far

just a couple of things i should point out:

1. in the Lewenkai page you mention humans a few times, however you havent mentioned humans at all anywhere else. i suspect you mean 'Sapids'.

2. Currently the various animal categories means nothing to me. i know you will expand on this later but i have just skipped reading the wildlife sections of each of the nations because i don't understand what anything is. id suggest doing the various wildlife next to solve this issue. you dont want readers skipping whole chunks of your writing!

3. id suggest doing what wikipedia does and put multiple links in the text blocks for easy reference. for example i would make the first mention of 'Sepid' on every page link to your 'sepid' page to explain what this strange word means. this is purely from an ease-of-reading point of view. i COULD manually search for what 'sepid' is, but generally people are lazy and would rather instant links that send them to an answer to their questions.
I understand this would be a fair bit of work on your part, but it would make the whole reading-up-on-naeralith thing a whole lot easyer. you have a lot of new concepts and words after all :)

4. The black background can be very hard on the eyes, particularly if i read off it for a few minutes and look at a white screen or paper. it leaves strong after images of the text which, after a few hours of reading, hurt my eyes :p

now that ive got my nit picking out the way:

i love the nations flag art  the srtists did a fantastic job with those (and the logo :)) and what a cool map that is :D i wonder who could have made that :mischief: but seriously, i love what you've done there. nice :)

I also am a huge fan of Ak'Dav already :) very nice. and your concept of colour based magic is very unique and cool :)

overall... WRITE MOAR!

Hehe ty for such a detailed response. Sorry I didnt get back to you sooner, but I've been out on business :)

As to your points:

1) Lol I hadn't noticed that I wrote human in the Lewenkai entry :mischief: I will fix that soon :)

2) Yeah I'm definately thinking of writing more specific sections on wildlife. Mainly sort of entries on groups of similar animals (i.e. Chenu or sayu and elaborating on what they are).

3) Already thought of putting in the links but you are so right lol. The main reason I've been holding off for now is because each time I add a new entry I will have to read through everything Ive done and add links in. I was going to wait till I had a little bit more up first :)

4) Is the black background that painful? I thought it would be easier on the eyes. However I'll think on how to improve this. Im going to give the site a makeover eventually but for now I just wanted it up!

I guess what Im saying is I agree with your points LOL. I'll be endeavouring to make changes over time, hopefully to make things easier for the reader!

Glad you liked the artwork too. Gothic Inc have done some lovely stuff for me! And the map is very nice too hehe ;) You took my original coastline sketch and did some lovely things with the pic. I especially loved your mountains ;)

Glad you like the Ak'dav! Possibly the "nicest" nation I've written about so far, but I have yet to delve into the truly good nations of Naeralith. I suppose my favourite part about the Ak'dav is their industrialisation. I think it sets them apart from the rest of Naeralith :)

Also ty for appreciating my magic concept hehe ;)

I will post some updates tomorrow (now I'm back from my little business trip) and will also begin to write some more. I think you are right about the need for more detailed wildlife. I think I will address this first :)

Hope you have all enjoyed reading!

The webpage is definately an enjoyable read, especialy since i'm the kind of person who finds the lore to be half the fun! You must have been world-building for quite some time to get that level of detail.

Keep it coming! :)

its not THAT painful, its more of an annoyance with the after image. i also heard that black background with light writing is better for the eyes, but in my experience i tend to disagree. of course i can live with it ;) even if you dont get around to changing it, i just thought i would point it out :)

Ty :) and you did a fantastic job with the real world satellite land textures :)

I suppose my favourite part about the Ak'dav is their industrialisation.

this is my favourite part as well. SO often in fantasy Arabic/ Egyptian nations are depicted as solely magical or stuck in one particular age. i have never really seen any industrialized Arabgyptian nation so its a nice change. I suppose it dosn't help that im a goody-two-shoes at heart either. (I always play the good guys lol)

Also ty for appreciating my magic concept hehe

its certainly different :)

I will post some updates tomorrow

yay :)

I think you are right about the need for more detailed wildlife. I think I will address this first

Double Yay! :D

Lol yeah I've been world building for a long while now. I originally came up with the concept for Naeralith about three years ago. It evolved from some other ideas that have now essentially become Naeralith's history. I decided to make a civ mod relating to my world a couple of years ago, but obviously I have continued to write and develop my world so the mod soon became out of date. My goal is to continue writing about my world and keep the mod up to date with what I write in this thread :)

Yeah the Ak'dav are definately the most technologically advanced nation on Naeralith. Alvacon do have them beat magically though, as you will eventually see :)
I never really think of the Ak'dav as good, but they are certainly nicer than a lot of other nations hehe :)

UPDATES 27/01/2010

Added details on the Jynari religion. Only got Lost Ones and Noldai left to define.
I also have to work on religious units and promotions, but these will come in time.

I also have a list of tracks available for several nation's war/peace music. Unfortunately the rar file is 74mb so I cannot attach it. If anyone wants to help me develop the soundtrack then PM me and we can discuss the music I have so far :)
