Naming Stuff Thread

I don't want to appear boring and obnoxious here, but what if we have some sort of systematic system for naming our units. Then it wouldn't be necessary to discuss all sorts of korean sounding names, yet make it easy to log the actions of our units.

Maybe a two letter abbreviation for the type of unit, then a two or three number combination for the turn it was built in, and another number in the case two or more of the same type of units was built in the same turn.
For example, if two warriors were built in turn 93, the second one built would be named WA932. Or maybe add a two letter abbreviation for the city it was built? This way, the enemy won't know how many units we have.

Also, for the city name, I really like The Meeting Room but it doesn't quite fit the name for a coastal city. The Garden Pond? heh just kidding

Welcome sirdanilot! Well, some of us like those Korean names...

We still need a name for our next ship, btw. Any ideas, except CC Aerok and CC Wong Kwon? I like the first one.
All ships after this one will be galleys btw.

Well, if you are only going to build a few units, I guess it's fun to name them all, but if we start cranking out a lot of units at once we just can't keep up with that.

I like CC Wong Kwon by the way.

CC Aerok is fun and gets my vote.

Edit: Too late for curragh this turn I see, so gets my vote for the next one!

I think our next ships will be galleys instead of curraghs. If so, then we should use CG instead of CC.

 This basically goes together with our intention not to build many units this game (and encourages it!). The only exception might happen, when we build our mighty H'watcha army... ;)

However when most of us are fed up with looking for Korean (-like) names, we will certainly think of another system. For the moment most of us think, this creates a special unique flair for this very unique game. :crazyeye:

Well, that sounds reasonable I think. It does make us special.

Also, what does CC stand for? Ah whatever it does sound cool.

We will be adding some workers to cities soon, in order to speed up our wonder builds. This means that some council members will no longer have a worker named after them. Should we assign the next new worker to such a member, or do we keep going down the list of names, and perhaps fill in the gaps in a second round?

I think we should replace the 'lost' names ASAP. It won't be long till we have more workers than Council members anyway so I think it will be easier to just recycle the names right away. Less to keep track of.

:agree: that sounds like the easiest way to me also.

I have been reusing worker names: donsig was reborn a few turns ago.

We will run out of worker names pretty soon, just four more names to go. What do we do after that? I think it would be nice to start naming workers after our worthy opponents. Other options would be that we each get to choose a name in turn.

We are a few turns from settling the next town (Grey Dot, just north of the mountain). Any suggestions for a name?

ooh - I like that.

If we wanted to save that name for another location, we could go with a more mountain sounding name for grey dot though.

Mountain Hold
Shadow of the Mt.

I'm also thinking that maybe we should name a future costal town "Chamsuri's Cove"

The Aerie, for a mountainous location
The Lodge
The Lookout
The Chalet

The Beacon (ohh, that might give away our GL plans :()

Chamsuri's Cove is excellent because that little raft deserves some official recognition!

Some very good names here. We really should stick with The in front of our city names - with the sole exception of Chamsuri's Cove. She is a great little ship indeed. :D

Oh yeah! Forgot about that.

In that case, My favorite is "The Aerie" - but all the ones Peter suggested are good.

Glad everyone likes the idea of naming a town after Chamsuri!
