So far I have suggested:

Cities (sci-fi theme): Quantum, Singularity, Resonance, Horizon, Cosmos, Axiom, Etheric, Phlogiston.

Ships (major rivers): Ganges, Rio Grande, Thames, Orinoco, Nile, Rhine, Danube, Po, Mississippi, Amazon, Tweed.

Extra (scientists/explorers): Kepler, Copernicus, Halley, Newton, Cabot, Polo, Magellan, Cortez. CavScout also suggested Galileo and Columbus.

I like Arakhor's list of names for both cities and ships in the order that he has listed.

On reflection though I think all the extra's (including mine) are too confusing since they share names with many of great people in the game.

Now for the hard part: what do we name our land units? :crazyeye:

For my part, anyone who wants to take the time to come up with a name for something and get into the game to change it can do so with my blessing. I vote yes to everything.

That sounds like a good idea. If we were the Romans, we could name our legions after ourselves. As it is, we'll have to stick with naming Axemen, Macemen and so on :)

We could do that too. What scheme should we have for those?

I happen to like the name Balduran, from the Forgotten Realms setting, but that's the only thing that jumps to mind.

Afterthought - let's use the explorers/famous people to name the landmarks, as might realistically be done, e.g. Kepler Point, Columbus Peak, Mount Galileo.

I like this idea a lot too. The current list of cities and ships I am also good on, they seem like they will work out rather well.

As for units - well we don't really have each city being a distinct theme, something that always made it easy for me to name things (based on what city it's built in). Though going with each player on the team getting legions named after them in some manner would also be cool. If we wanted semi-coherent we could have everybody choose their themes but within reason - like "Earthling's 3rd Stormtroopers" or whatever (that would be with the sci-fi theme, but no, I wouldn't go with stormtroopers myself)

We have kind of boxed ourselves into a corner in a way, since every member of the continuum is named Q! :hammer2:

I suppose we could name our units after characters in the star trek universe. But even this might be too restrictive after a while.

How bout we all just take turns naming our land units after our favorite science fiction characters? Would be fun to see a Greedo, Duncan Idaho or Johnny Rico running around on the map for instance. :)

Well, we could name every unit we build "Q" - really confuse the other teams. ;)

As naming units goes, the sci-fi theme: alright. But if someone wants to name a unit after themselves, or a city, or something then I think that should be allowed too.

Originally spotted by Earthling we need to come up with a name for the forrested coast.

Yeah I know :crazyeye: see screenie.

Anywho because I'm not feeling very creative thsi morning all I can come up with is 'The lost forrest of Atlantis'

There has to be better than that ....

Hmmm. I really don't know :)

No, somebody else spotted it before me, I couldn't find which post/thread it was in here. They didn't mouseover that it was forest/coast though I think. Actually iirc we called it an "invisible whale" and were wondering if it was a resource at the time.

I'm good with any name though, it is a very funny little quirk.

Well since we are killing time while waiting for our Stonehenge victory perhaps we could poll this? ;)

The nominees so far are: Kelp Forest, Lost Forest of Atlantis, Sealab 2021 and Great Quatronian Reef.

The Great Quatronian Reef sounds pretty good to me, but I don't mind any of those others either if they are popular.

I want the second city to be named "Quatron", after our proud nation. Could go with Electron, Proton, Neutron etc.
